I saw this one this afternoon...

I was so disappointed. I had seen the original in New York and it's one of my all-time favourites.

I think the show had some technical issues which will OF COURSE be worked out, but at the moment I felt like the direction wasn't very strong. I didnt get the sensation that the company even understood half the jokes they were being asked to deliver.

I don't want to be too harsh on the actors because it was still an early preview - but the acting chops need to step up quite a bit. Vocally everyone sounded strong.

Highlights for me were Tara Verloop as Linda and Ben Cracknell's lighting.

Might go see it again in Wimbledon/Bromley as I love the show so much and want to see how it settles, but this doesn't strike me as a winning production.

i have just got back from seeing the Wedding Singer musical at the Curve theatre. It was really really good and worth a look if you get the chance. The guy playing Robbie Hart was superb, as was the girl playing Julia. The score was ok and the whole show ran well and had a lot of humour. A real feel good show and a good alternative to Legally Blonde!

I saw this last night. I have never seen the film or heard the soundtrack but booked because of Jon.

I loved it. Yes, it is mindless trash but it is feel good mindless trash. It's a real escapism piece where you can just sit and enjoy for 2 hours and go "well that was fun!" As previously mentioned I am a big fan of Jon and he did not disappoint. His vocals were incredible and I loved seeing him dance. He really carries the show.

The other stand out for me as actually Ray Quinn. He doesn't have a huge role but he owns the stage when he comes on. The girls (Cassie Compton and Roxanne Pallet) were good but I felt overshadowed by their male counterparts.

I enjoyed the score and came out humming a couple of songs. I also added it to my spotify so it didn't something for me! A couple of technical issues but nothing major. Highly recommended.

I have to say, i loved this. It was quite different to how i expected it to be. I expected it to be cheesy and tacky...and it wasn't. Okay parts of it were cheesy but it knew it was, it didn't take itself seriously, it was knowing, it had a laugh with it. It had swearing, it had a lot of sexual stuff and obscene stuff, mentions of drug use...yeh really just not what i was expecting but that's the reason i loved it. The production values also surprised me as i really liked the set and thought it was pretty good with lots of different set ups, pieces and designs and i especially liked the lighting, which was brilliant. Was all pretty slick. Jon was brilliant, totally the star of the show, i'd seen him in a few things but didn't realise he was a dancer as well! I really liked Cassie, her voice was lovely but i d agree with a comment i saw previous about maybe some of her comedy not really coming off. I though Roxanne was good and grew into the performance. Ray was good but i found his voice a little on the weak side, though a very good dancer and does have star quality on stage. Ruth Madoc was just an absolute riot and Samuel Holmes was brilliantly funny as well, though i'm sure it's easy to miss half of his best bits though as they come in just his faces and reactions and stuff at other scenes going on. The music was really catchy, the band sounded fantastic...there has been mentions of some issues with sound but other than some lyrics sounded muffled during the big numbers, which is to be expected really there wasn't a problem.

So as you can tell...loved it. I love it when i go into something not really thinking it will be a fave and then just ending up really loving it!

Saw this last night in Sunderland. I hadn't seen the film so didn't know the story but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Jon Robyns was fantastic in the lead role and his voice is amazing. Favourite song was "Casualty of Love" if I had to pick just one. Ray Quinn was also very good although not in it much. Couldn't really warm to Roxanne Pallet - she was ok. Samuel Holmes was really funny as George and also enjoyed Ruth Madoc. She was really enjoying herself. Show wasn't sold out but everyone seemed to be enjoying it with lots of cheering and shouting at the end. It's a show I could easily see again especially with the multi talented Jon Robyns starring in it.

I saw his last night, and I loved it! I haven't seen the film and didn't think I knew anything of the musical (turns out at least 3 of the songs were a bit familiar probably played on Elaine Paige or similar) For me it's in the vein of Legally Blonde- a really solid fun musical adaptation with good music, that doesn't take itself too seriously. I love that it's a little bit knowing and wink-wink. But as well as that, it's a solid 'romcom on stage' with good music and given the subject matter it's something that also makes sense as a musical adaptation.

The cast were great- I love Jon Robyns, and can confirm 10 years on, still most defiantly have a crush on him. I thought Ray Quinn did a decent job as well in the smaller 'bad guy' role, boy can dance and sing well even if his acting isn't amazing. And Ruth Madoc, oh Ruth, you're having a lovely time aren't you? fair play to her she's funny, and does a good job in her comedy Grandma role. The ensemble are really strong too-some great comic moments across the board, and the music/dancing are all great.

That's my objective view, on a personal note seeing this last night was testament to why I love musicals- I was having a horrible day (kind of stuff that makes you think you might not go to the theatre- but I'm glad I did, because I was transported to a wonderful 'happy place' for 2 1/2 hours and had some real genuine escapism. So sometimes that happy musical romcom is exactly what you need.

Thank you- explanation in 'how was your day' thread rather than being a vague-boarder. But I'm so glad I had this booked last night, and I'm going to seek out the music now- it was joyous and fun. A great shame it was very empty last night in Cardiff hopefully the weekend does better for them.

You see, interestingly, with Ray i thought his Dancing, and lesser extent, his acting, were much better than his singing. I mean he didn't have much and to be very fair to him All About Th Green is an incredibly energetic routine, but to me his voice seemed rather weak. But i did like him overall and his dancing was certainly great to watch.

Also, he was literally outside the theatre entrance in Leicester having a cigarette 20 mins before the show and i walked past him and got a little star struck. By Ray Quinn of all people. Now i don't come into contact with 'celebs' very often so don't judge me haha!

I will ALWAYS keep saying something nice about Jon Robyns! adore him! Shame Stasia you could have come to Wales and seen him- I'd show you around!!

This year marks 10 years I first saw Jon on stage apparently. I was lucky to see Avenue Q's original cast when I came to London for the first time

Oh goodness it must be 10 years for me too!! I was living in London then and got a bit obsessed with Avenue Q, I once went twice in one week...I had such a crush on Jon then too!

And yes, you should come to Wales! we can go on theatre adventures and see the sights (most likely in the rain but that's an authentic Welsh Experience for you!)

I might see this again, that trailer has got me excited to see it again. I really really enjoyed this a few weeks ago and will look to book again when it comes to Birmingham or Nottingham in the summer.

I was intending to see this when it gets to Cambridge later this month but that trailer is a bit offputting. It looks rather, well, tacky. Is it deliberately focusing on the most OTT bits or is the whole show like that?

Also badly priced in Cambridge...Same top price £36 to sit at the front as half way back in the balcony. At sister act the sides of the back stalls were not top price either. It has so many tickets left shame really but the price has definitely put me off booking. I paid £18 for a seat in the circle over the road at the arts for full monty and the view is much better than the balcony in the Corn exchange. 

Shame it isn't going to Milton Keynes, I saw funny girl twice yesterday for the same amount and the difference in parking costs cancelled out the petrol difference! £3.60 for the day rather than £26.

I am sure I will give in on the day for another chance to see Jon Robyns, I also really enjoyed Ray Quinn in the Judy tour a couple of years back.

I saw this last week in Sunderland as I loved it when it last toured a few years ago. It took me a while to get into this time round though, not sure exactly why. Once it got going though I really enjoyed it again, I love the songs and it's a nice feel-good show. I also thought Jon Robyns was great.

Glad it's not just me Rozzi Rainbow I saw it twice back in 2008 and absolutely loved it. However like you it took me ages to get into this version. I thought I'd love it from the start especially as I like Jon Robyns but it wasn't until the shopping scene that I finally was fully into it. Maybe it was just that I was more easily pleased 9 years ago, who knows? But I loved that version so much that I had to see it a second time.

I did enjoy this version but I doubt I'll be heading back to see it again. I found myself getting annoyed with Grandma Rosie in this which I don't think helped. Hmm, finding it hard to think of really nice things to say, so I'm going to shut up before I say more things I didn't like about it. However even though you can't tell I did actually like it.
