Whilst the Imelda arse lickers Are out in force From the reviews in I think the 3 star WOS posting Is a reflection of what I thought A very good play somewhat amiss in acting terms Tempted to go again though Just to eat a curry in the front row And I agree Imogen Poots was the best of the 4 The 3* WOS posting reads like a 5* review and misses the point of how the show and Imelda has been directed (and indeed of the play they claim to love). And Parsley, since you only seem to be arguing this just to be obtuse (and harping tiresomely on about being asked not to eat), your opinion is once again worth absolutely zero. Your opinion On the other hand Is debated daily in parliament Such is its gravitas 😂😂😂

Well, I did sign the petition about Trump, so my opinion has been debated at least once in Parliament.
At least my opinion of shows I see varies and isn't expressed in such an unpleasant and reductive way though, eh?

Each to their own.. but i thought this was excellent. I have not seen previous version to compare but the time flew by and was on the edge of my seat....Poots was just fine but to me was the least explored character and off stage for lots of the play...E S was in pieces by the end and gave her usual all...What a star!

I like to hear Parsley's opinion thank you very much! You can always hide his posts quite easily if it annoys you popcultureboy, rather than directly attacking a forum member!

'High standards' reads as 'limited taste' to others because of the need to dismiss what many like.
I'm glad I can go to well over 100 shows a year and find pleasure in most them, it must be hell wasting so much time and effort for the odd glimpse of it.

There is VERY LITTLE that beats sitting at home once you get to my age. I keep going to plays though, like a fool...

If Imelda Staunton was concerned about being compared to Elizabeth Taylor in the movie, she has nothing to worry about. As good as Taylor was, she was about twenty years too young for Martha, which skews the character away from carrying the weight of a whole lifetime of disappointment: which is what Staunton successfully conveys. Besides which, the movie is far too nasty to be relatable, with Richard Burton's George so unrelentingly cold and cruel, I can barely bear to watch the thing. Where the production suffers in comparison to the film is in it's depiction of the minor characters, the two guests: young couple, Nick and Honey. There is a richness to the film, where the motivations and behaviours of the hosts and guests mirror and refract and magnify upon each other. In the film, George Segal's Nick is as much a predatory shark as Richard Burton's George, he's just not as good at it. In the film, Sandy Dennis' Honey has the same deep desires as Elizabeth Taylor's Martha, she just can't hide it so well. Indeed, in the film, Sandy Dennis gives one of the all-time great screen performances of an empathetic emotional human sponge, instantly internalising and reflecting the pains of others. But across all three versions I've now seen, the two performances that I most love are Sandy Dennis as Honey in the movie and Conleth Hill as George, at the Harold Pinter. Well I recently took the decision to re-watch the film version before going to see this in April. Lordy, but what with all the prima donna/Michael Jackson BFF nonsense towards the end of her life, I'd completely forgotten what a brilliant actress Liz Taylor could be! Steve , I know Taylor was young, but thought they'd aged her well and I thought her acting ability stood up well to the requirements of the role. However, I'm looking forward enormously to seeing Imelda, much more suited in age.

Saw it this afternoon. Unless "Angels In America" pulls something out of the bag, Conleth Hill's Olivier is already engraved, and probably Staunton's too. Love to see Poots and Treadaway in contention as well. Opinion on my site now, and I'm siding with the 5 star rave brigade on this one. Totally agree a fine performance by Mr Hill hopefully he will be rewarded.

I saw this last week and I'm sure a few will disagree, but it's still Imogen Poots who stole it for me.

I've sat in O7, immediately behind it. There's a slim pillar in your sightline. You will need to move your head at times to see the action but if it's a good price compared to seats around it I'd say it's worth it - better than the side seats in the circle, certainly. I was just about to buy E21 - do elaborate!

Ah I see, thanks! I might bite the bullet for the price, that opinion seems to be the only really negative one I've heard.

Even this is far from sold out
What's going on?
The £110 stalls may have something to do with it
She's hardly an oscar winner

Even this is far from sold out What's going on? The £110 stalls may have something to do with it She's hardly an oscar winner Since when was being an Oscar winner actually the arbiter of a good/great actor/actress as opposed to a good/great studio awards season campaign? There are exceptions of course, but to imply that being an Oscar winner as opposed to a nominee means much at all in terms of acting prowess is ludicrous.

Saw it last night...Amazing. I thought Conleth Hill stole it for me. Anyone who can hold their own in scenes with the force of nature that is Imelda is doing pretty well in my book. I don't know if was the fear factor, or the repeated warnings but I have never known such a well behaved audience. I didn't even hear ice rattling in plastic. Although there was one mobile vibrating at a quiet moment...it's true, it's not enough just to put it on silent - turn it off!

I didn't even hear ice rattling in plastic. Signs in the bar saying ice won't be served in drinks after 7.20 or in the interval. Ms Staunton has power...
