Even this is far from sold out What's going on? The £110 stalls may have something to do with it She's hardly an oscar winner Since when was being an Oscar winner actually the arbiter of a good/great actor/actress as opposed to a good/great studio awards season campaign? There are exceptions of course, but to imply that being an Oscar winner as opposed to a nominee means much at all in terms of acting prowess is ludicrous. My point being It's far from sold out Which is strange Given the excellent reviews And her supposed reputation Which in fact is inflated just for the UK And lacks international status You think if George Clooney Or Angelina Jolie Was in this There would be seats unsold at £115? Doubt it

Doubt it Sweeny Todd and Gypsy were hudge successes, but when she did Good People was that a huge success box office wise? Maybe people just don't want to see Imelda do a play? Also, the three and a bit hour run time probably isn't that appealing either. But thay being said, it is hardly the flop of the season, it is stil, selling well enough!

The idea of George Clooney and Angelina Jolie as George and Martha is certainly, um, a novel one .....

The reason it isn't a sell out must be about the ticket prices. Thanks to this board and being savvy most of us know about deals, discounts, day seats, discounts for early booking etc. but the average punter out there will not. They will take a look at the prices - £80 plus for a good seat - for a play - double that for two people - £160 plus an interval drink, ice cream, programme and they will not have much change out of £200! For a night out on a Wednesday? It is beyond most peoples budget except for a special occasion.
Dynamic pricing does work downwards though and these unsold "premium" seats become "top price" seats or even lower on the day. The producers try their luck but are not prepared to have a row of empty prime seats in the middle of the stalls.

It's selling very well. The "3 week rule" applies. Londoners plan 3 weeks ahead, and after the reviews came out, 3 weeks is what it takes before it really reflects in how full the house is. The day seat line is busy, and the app hard to get in through, too. And word of mouth is fantastic. This just shows people Want to see it on the cheap

I'm half way in. I'm emotionally drained already. I need a gin.
I must say though, I do love a Treadaway. Don't mind which one.

Well. That's a bit of an emotional ringer isn't it? There's a touch of the ACTING DARLINGS from the leads but heavens, they certainly give you your money's worth. Dame Imelda (it's going to happen soon) is just marvellous but the show belongs to Conleth Hill.
Well, him and blond bombshell Luke Treadaway's tush. Which I can say with delight from seat C2 fits very snugly into his trousers.

Good show thou. Solid. Didn't give it a standing ovation thou Also, did they cut out the last 2 mins of second act? I'm sure honey comes in drunk and Gorge has a little chat with her

Also, did they cut out the last 2 mins of second act? I'm sure honey comes in drunk and Gorge has a little chat with her I'm sure no one cares but I was correct! Sort of. The definitive version ends like last night but the original ends how I remembered it. Moral of the story? Always ask it's owner before u stroke a dog

Theatremonkey, is there a similar (or different!) rule for those West End shows which don't get reviewed on West End opening because they've been reviewed previously elsewhere and nothing has changed?

Saw this from a Today Tix rush seat yesterday matinee, A4, it was a privilege to be so close. Conleth Hill is sensational, no other word for it. Imelda is ...well, Imelda, so charismatic but for me a teeny tiny bit OTT - I wonder how her performance will come over on the live transmission. Genuinely funny (I hadn't see the play since the Suchet/Rigg version) and heartbreaking. Had to walk round for 30 mins afterwards to get my breath back.

I went last night and loved it. I was a bit underwhelmed by Staunton in the first two acts since she was recycling so much from her Mama Rose, but her "I am the Earth mother" speech in Act 3 was simply superb. Excellent performances all around, I was very impressed by Imogene Poots, but it's really Conleth Hill's triumph.
