I'd have stuck up for him by saying he probably meant not casting untrained former members of noughties' girl bands, but he literally talked about casting people from the biggest tv show or film. Then casts Harington, lead of the biggest tv show of the last twenty years.  In his defence, he was presumably thinking of paying big bucks for the biggest names, just to be able to push up ticket prices. It looks like that's not happening here. I always think it perverse when the actors who least need the cash hold out for high salaries and the largest possible font for their star turn in theatre. I assume it's down to ego, because they've heard what someone else was earning and can't accept less. Thankfully we still have a lot of very successful British actors who appear to enjoy doing stage work, and don't want to limit their options to the highest bidders. Not using tv stars might work on Broadway, but successful British actors tend to do a mix of stage and screen before and after becoming famous, so insisting on using British actors that only do stage, or have not had much success beyond that needlessly limits your options above a certain age. |

Does anyone have a clue whether the first two rows of the stalls (A & B) will be removed for this production? I know at previous productions at the Noel Coward row C has been the front row, but A and B could potentially be the held back seats for the pay what you can scheme?

Also wasn’t too impressed by Daddy. But I do like a bit of Kit Harington, so…
Estimated wait time “less than a minute.” Wish all shows were that easy.

I thought this was going to be easy booking as no queue at all. But after I paid, nothing happened and it just took me to the theatre homepage. No confirmation email received, no booking number, and nothing shown on my Delfont Mackintosh account. Then just checked my account and the money has gone out. Doh!

Not the slips being £20 when DEH had them at £7.50 Sadly DEH was celebrity-wage free. They’ve got to stump up for Kit and Denzel’s daughter’s fees. And pay for the American actors apartments. (It is just greed though. Especially not to have them low in Previews) |

I thought this was going to be easy booking as no queue at all. But after I paid, nothing happened and it just took me to the theatre homepage. No confirmation email received, no booking number, and nothing shown on my Delfont Mackintosh account. Then just checked my account and the money has gone out. Doh! I had the same, it took about 40 minutes to get the email through and for them to show in my DMT account. |

The play which despite being nominated for 12 Tony awards Won none If this is going to the WE It will bomb at the box office Would make more sense at Almeida RC or NT There was a lengthy piece about this on The World at One on Radio 4 discussing all the controversy about the NY ticket sales and the cheap tickets that will be available in London. I will be genuinely amazed if it's a flop |

I genuinely hope people have researched to understand the nature of what they are booking.
This is not something to wander into blind as to the content.
I have no desire to see it based on what I have read. I am far from being a prude. But this is not what I seek in a play.
Everyone is free to make their own choice. But it should be an informed choice.
This isn't about detailed spoilers or trigger warnings. This is about getting a general understanding of the material.

I would have though this might suit Kwame Kwei-Armah at the Young Vic, but here we are with 3-months at the Noel Coward (and Kwame's out the door, anyway). Perhaps it was a bit strong for the YV, or maybe the ambition for a WE show was always there and the producers had lodged an interest. Is there really such a market here for more USA-orientated self/flagellation on their slavery history? Or is the angle here of the hard-to-take-but-had-to-witness sensationalist genre of A Little Life .. Now that the play is running and at the request of a member who wishes to discuss the actual play we have decided to reopen the thread.
At the point where it was closed there were 70 posts discussing the play and 149 posts arguing, troublemaking, trolling and name calling.
We will not be discussing the pros and cons of the blackout performances here.
If it descends into arguments the thread will be removed.

I'm seeing this later in the week thanks to the Pay What You Can lottery. I'd completely forgotten I'd signed up but it was very easy to get tickets when the email came through last week. I've read the plot synopsis and it really doesn't sound like the kind of thing I'd usually go for, but for PWYC prices I figured it'll be well worth a punt. Just thought I'd put a reminder in here in case anyone's not aware of this scheme - or, like me, had forgotten. I believe they release tickets every Wednesday for the next week's performance.
