Does anyone know What is the rationale Behind such a large scale and popular musical Being shoehorned into a venue for plays I saw this at Drury lane as directed by Rupert Goold If I recall correctly it was a well received and anticipated production With the highest box office advance of 15 million pounds at that time It had a huge cast and was like a good pantomime Why the contrast in scale? I assume the cast is smaller etc? Other than the 3 weeks it is running at Xmas This revival has hardly set the box office in a panic I doubt the advance is anywhere near 15 million I agree that a big venue would be cool for a good old fashioned musical like this, but this doesn't have the months of TV hype that the Drury Lane production got through the I'd Do Anything show. That would have accounted for a big chunk of the advance box office. Saw that version a couple of times, loved it.

Not just the TV show, but it also had the big casting coup of Rowen Atkinsons return to the stage as Fagin. And then, like the Palladium before it, cast a string of famous Fagins.
The version has no star names.
And as has been mentioned, the shows origins were never a big spectacle.

I thought the Drury Lane production was too big and completely overblown - it felt like they were trying to recreate the movie on stage. A more intimate take may recapture some of the magic and energy of the original Peter Coe / Sean Kenny production.

I never caught it at Dury Lane but i did at the Palladium. Sonia Swaby aside i was not the biggist fan and i look forward to a more intimate production.

I saw it at Drury Lane and loved the grand scale of it. Only thing I didn't like was Omid Djalili as Fagin who was a bit rubbish. But then I really went to see Jodie Prenger and she didn't disappoint.

Probably nothing but performances before the 19th December have been taken off sale on the Delfont Mackintosh website, was meant to start on the 14th December.
They were sold out, so it's probably nothing

They don’t tend to disappear. I wonder when they’ll be emailing people? And the cause of the delay? Has to be set related…

Maybe a glitch in the system somewhere as performances from 21st - 26th inclusive have gone as well, which is more than the few days off for christmas scheduled before?
Would be strange for them to just do two shows and then take a week off...

Has to be set related… The removal of sold out shows from the DMT website seems to be a new and unwelcome development. I noticed last week that they had removed loads of performances of Inside No 9 from their website, particularly at the weekend, but they appeared again when new seats were released. I would prefer if they still continued to grey out the sold out performances rather than remove them entirely.

Has the full ensemble and cast been announced? The official website still only lists the core 5 cast, which seems a bit of a shame for the rest of the cast lol (although, it may just be slacking in terms of updating the website considering that the run time is still "to be confirmed"; which I would've thought they'd know after the Chichester run)

They were doing essential maintenance to the DMT ticket site last night.
All dates are now showing from the 14th Dec as scheduled (albeit sold out).

Cast finally announced, does seem that most that were part of the show in Chichester are still in.

Does anyone know What is the rationale Behind such a large scale and popular musical Being shoehorned into a venue for plays The Palladium and TRDL productions were the outliers for this show, mostly it has been successful in mid-sized houses. Starting with the New in 1960 (later Albery / Noel Coward, where it was also revived in 1977), the Piccadilly in 1967 and the Aldwych in 1983.
