As it's a block, maybe they can knock through and spread out into one of the spaces on either side? Given the massive changes happening to the space on the left of the Donmar (which I think is now going to be a food court, and will have a roof terrace) I did wonder if that might be the case. Although not listed individually, the building the Donmar occupies is not only Grade II listed, but also falls within the Seven Dials Conservation Area. |

Nothing for me to get too excited about there - might go for the Caryl Churchill one but I always find that if you're not a member, booking for anything at the Donmar is usually a nightmare (I haven't seen anything there since Saint Joan a couple of years back).

Ugh. I'd like to see a couple of those (Appropriate and Teenage Dick... stop giggling), which means remembering to be online at the exact moment tickets go on public sale, because I'm guessing they'll both be at least as popular as Sweat.
(I went online to try and buy a single ticket for Sweat about 45 minutes after they went on sale, and there was very little choice left for any of the performances that worked with my diary. If I'd left it another couple of hours, I wouldn't have been able to get a ticket at all.)

That was why I joined the membership scheme. I didn't mind getting any ticket that was left. I DID mind not getting tickets at all - regularly. Sure, I could keep trying for tickets, but my diary is chaotic and I don't do "short notice" very well.
That said, I wonder if they will take the redevelopment as another chance to close the schemes down and make people re-join at much higher prices. Seems high already? |

It is. But what happened before that, was that there was a far lower tier (several, IIRC) starting around £15. The schemes were closed to new members anyway, but there were waiting lists for the lower priced memberships. When they last reformed it all - Rourke's takeover, I think - they cancelled all memberships and started again with the current thing. Lowest rung £75. It cleared out the (insert own description here) and for a time worked in as much as it was too expensive for most and they didn't need to close the list / had public tickets available again. Of course now, with inflation, it's back to the same situation as £75 isn't so totally unreasonable any more, like it was then.
And I suppose the relatively tiny capacity of the auditorium means they're going to need to keep a membership fee relatively high if it's going to provide any booking benefits.

The Donmar is one of the few where being a member is the only way you can be confident of getting a ticket.
Believe they do not hold tickets back, in theory there could be no tickets left for public sale and for popular shows and this is evident when checking availability as usually all the best seats have gone when the public booking opens.
If you see most of the shows in a year this adds about £10 to a ticket which is a good business model for a successful small Theatre, fortunately the next season is just within my current membership period so can hold off before renewing my membership until the next booking period.

Believe they do not hold tickets back I agree, they don't seem to, judging by the choice when I've booked in the past year. For example, there were almost no stalls for "Sweet Charity" after an hour of priority booking - and that situation was the same when public booking opened. So we can conclude it was all on sale. So with this new policy they are golding back 40 tickets per show until a week before the performance etc...tickets will even harder to obtain ..even for members ? |

They have held tickets back for the front row scheme, and more recently for the Klaxon scheme, so I don't think these 40 seats being held back will make any difference.
I've never been a member and have always been able to get seats during public booking, except for the Jude Law thing where someone with membership booked for me.

Ooh you just reminded me I haven't watched this weeks. I'm putting it in the category of 'it's batsh*t crazy, I have no idea what's happening, but I can't look away' much like Dr Foster or Bodyguard...everyone is pretty and well dressed...but I'm not sure what I'm watching. It does however kick into gear with the newspaper conspiracy stuff on episode 3. |

Well, I don't know all the details of the new ticket sales plans, but for the first time in many years, as a mere member I was offered seats in the central stalls, row C, for two of the shows I booked for - and also front row of side stalls, right up to the corner. So maybe it's because of where I was in the queue (started at about 450), or because of the dates I picked, but for the start of the new season, I'm hoping not to have a pole in view...

I know there's been talk on here about difficulty getting seats if you're not a member and not a lot of choice if you are so to probably ask the obvious do the super expensive memberships presumably Hoover up the best seats here?

Straight forward enough ticket purchase for Appropriate and Blank for my £10 side circle seat for both productions for the dates I needed. I liked the fact that when buying for the two shows, the site needed fewer clicks to get where I needed to get to when buying. Going back to the “buy” front page after each purchase helped for a quick and smooth purchase.

While waiting in the "Queue-It" line every open window asked at a different time for me to take the "I am not a robot" verification - the one where you have to click on all the cars etc. If you have multiple windows open to the countdown, be prepared to have to answer the question rapido in each one at some point - even with 10 seconds to go in the line. You could find yourself kicked out otherwise. Loathed this. It's 9.05 in the morning, I haven't had a cup of tea yet, and you're asking me to identify shopfronts? |
