43 mins 30 secs into the Elaine Paige Radio 2 show (3rd March) for Sheridan Smith singing magic.
Agree with thoughts above, nice bustling and brassy orchestrations. Song's good, apart from the lyrics in the middle eight where lots of syllables land on an unnatural stress. Sheridan sounds good, and along with the fact she's experienced fragility when performing, it will probably be propelled by a 'Sheridan tests herself again, and wins again' buoyancy.

Apparently they are doing a 'Sunset Boulevard' - as part of the performance Sheridan will be filmed live outside every performance which is then streamed into the theatre, appearing very intoxicated making her way there.

I love how people think that the use of cameras in Sunset was new and innovative rather than something that every other play has been doing for a decade

Whilst Sunset used it as an effect - the song is called „sunset boulevard“ not „strand“ ;-) - in my opinion it may make sense for the storyline in this case. To find the actress in a state of mind outside the theatre in the street.

I am well aware it has been used before - but since the effect during Sunset Boulevard was covered and hyped on every type of media, with crowds turning up just to watch it being filmed, it will not come as a surprise that every play or musical it can be woven into, the production company will most likely insist it is used now. |

Yes, the shock of the “new” use of cameras and onstage filming seemed to surprise only the non-play goers in the Sunset thread.
Whereas the play people have been enjoying/not enjoying it for years.
Lloyd rehashed things from years earlier (and mainly from European directors: like Icke with his magpie-ing).

Can you imagine people knowing Sheridan Smith's unfair reputation, then seeing her stagger apparently drunk to the theatre whilst missing the whole context? My dad was known for liking a drink - then he started tripping over his feet often, slurring his words regularly, losing his balance, falling off his bike or swaying all over the road, sometimes in the mornings... The village gossips were having a field day - 'Look at him, the absolute drunk, no shame at all.'. They were all symptoms of MND - he died within two years. Some people apologised to my mum for what they had said about him, without knowing the facts. |

Still, if this is all they're doing of the outside filming it's not such a big part of the show. How long before people shouting 'Hi Sheridan' causes them to play in a recording instead? With 'Sunset Boulevard' your casual passerby didn't know Tom's name.

How can it be a car crash when they are filming on the streets? Can you imagine it in this day and age? Not just filming… but outside the theatre…..on the street. It’s mindblowing when you think about it. Revolutionary
