Well that's a typical Daily Mail cobbled together piece of nonsense. Making a comeback from what? She was on the west end stage last year! Why do we need to know that an audience member who left early worked for the NHS, does their profession make any difference? "Crawling along the streets of Soho" unless that scene has dramatically changed since I saw it all you see is her outside the state door stumbling and then coming in through the door, certainly not crawling around the streets.

Oh great, we have Kate Kellaway instead of Susannah Clapp this week... The critic who gave Dorian Gray 2 stars, gives Opening Night 4. Baffling!

"Ms Smith exits the theatre via the rear stage door and drunkenly crawls along the streets of Soho". Hilarious. Could Theatreboard members set up a challenge and be stationed along Old Compton Street and Frith Street with rewards for Sheridan if she makes it to each point: *Village Soho - A Gin and Tonic *Big Balans - Pan roasted sea bream with roasted Jerusalem artichokes, Cavolo Nero and a mussel & chive cream sauce *Bar Italia - A Cappuccino and finally.... *Stage Door of The Prince Edward Theatre - crawling onto the stage midshow during 'MJ The Musical' gets a Damehood. Take that Tom Francis!

I've been a reader of this forum for a few years and this is the one that's made me join.
This was fairly terrible (and that's being kind). It's a mess from start to finish and whilst I think Sheridan and Hadley did decent, that's about the only good thing I can say. There's a lot of low points in this.
I'd feel sorry for anyone who came along and this might have been their first impression of a musical as they'd probably never come back.

I'm still fatally fascinated to see what it's like with my own eyes; TodayTix at £30 Rush Seat is my best bet, but still feels a lot having been so thoroughtly warned! lol

Saw this last week. Will write more later as there is sooo much bad stuff in it. It has made me angrier and more perplexed in the days since. Which is rare as I tend to be more forgiving afterwards. They really need to turn Hadley Fraser’s voice down too. Not his mic. His voice I got a brilliant Todaytix seat for £30. Middle of Row C in the Dress. Worth absolutely every penny to say you’ve seen it, you were there and you have an opinion about it.

Sheridan will be fine. She's popular and one dud won't kill her career.

Like if you're paying 30 pound, it might not be horrific. I had bought tickets before it had been released so paid a decent whack and definitely regret it. It doesn't even have the decency to be so bad that it becomes good. It's just bad

Saw this last night and reread the bizarre 4 star reviews. Hell will have truly frozen over when I agree with Arifa Akbar. "There is compassionate treatment of the drama’s other midlife women too, from scriptwriter Sarah (Nicola Hughes, absolutely arresting) to Manny’s longsuffering wife Dorothy (Amy Lennox), who ruminate marital disappointment or menopausal hot flushes with disgruntled strength." Compassionate treatment for Amy Lennox's "midlife" character? She strolls on with a guitar and sings an inane song about not really knowing why she stays with her boring husband? I eagerly await Susannah Clapp's review From reading a few of her reviews, I do wonder if perhaps she waits to see what the general consensus is on a show before press night and then write the opposite just to "be different". She probably feels terribly clever giving something like Sunset Boulevard 3 stars and this show 4.

Saw this yesterday thinking it couldn't possibly be as bad as everyone had said - but turns out it's pretty terrible Everyone is clearly trying very hard and I absolutely do commend them for that, but the script is baffling, the music is forgettable, and the execution didn't work for me at all. At points in the second half I was literally shaking my head in disbelief. That said, thrilled to have seen it! Tickets were discounted to start with - not a great sign for the Easter weekend - and I had a SeatPlan voucher to use up, so don't regret my visit at all.

Does seem that some of the the more positive reviewers have intelectualised the problematic issues of this show, as if they can't bear to admit that IVH has created a turkey.

I am so tempted to see this I actually booked for this because I was intrigued by the combination of Ivo Van Hove,Rufus Wainwright and some of the other great names in the cast.I paid for expensive tickets months before it opened. As a regular theatregoer,it’s almost impossible to avoid making these kind of mistakes, but I can say hand on heart, this was the one to beat them all. Is the reason you’re tempted to go to see it is to witness a metaphorical and literal car crash? Or to see if you might enjoy it despite the general consensus of opinion? If it’s the former, just my heads up, the show isn’t funny bad (like Closer to the Sun or the Boney M musical), it’s just bad bad and extremely boring. I think it’s some of the reviews that have been funny, but the show itself is just an endurance test from start to finish in my humble opinion.

It isn't the sort of show where people are sniggering behind their hands at rubbish dialogue - it's just really dull and difficult to follow. Having bought tickets early for the same reason as annette I was determined to see the show through to the end but my OH left at the interval and it got distinctly worse in Act 2. If you're a real theatre addict and want to say that you saw one of the most misconceived West End shows for a long time (and get the T-shirt) then go for it, but I really wouldn't recommend anyone shells out real money for this. I'm sure offers will become even easier to find over the next few weeks.

On my way home. Not quite a car crash but a hot mess of a production. Not quite as bad as Just for One Day but I did truly despise that like nothing else.
As a big fan of the film, I didn't find it hard to follow as such (of course you shouldn't have had to see the film to be able to follow the plot) but its so so muddled!!
There were some moments I really enjoyed, especially the number between Sheridan and Nicola Hughes after the interval. But the book is so repetitive, and the claustrophobia of the film is broken up by the endless stream of average music!!
Sheridan clearly believes in it and was great. I'll be gutted for her if it closed early but its absolutely not her fault. I was still rooting for it but there is one scene in act 2 which is so appalling I mentally threw in the towel after that.

I've seen it slated across this platform and really enjoyed the production, but it's the point where it feels like I can't admit that I haven't seen it yet, but I'm pretty certain from the X/Twitter video I shared that the curtain call IS intellectualised by the director, as a further exploration of the cat and mouse relationship between performers and audience. But when I see it I'll be happy to admit if I change my view, and I'm wrong.

I just think in this particular case, given the overall poor reception of this production by both critics and audiences alike, you can't help but read the few positive reviews with a raised eyebrow. Some may have genuinely enjoyed it and seen something in it, but the cynic in me can't help but feel perhaps some critics were trying too hard to be cleverer than the rest of us in their positive analysis of this more "avant garde" piece.

Thanks so much for this. Any recommendations on seats for this as I understand screens are used a lot so I guess back stalls I would miss these screens? I’ll be going in with very low expectations!!

There are TV monitors on the side for those unable to see the screens but yes would recommend sitting more forward to see the screens.

She’s wasting her time. A new show is being lined up right now to replace this.
