Interesting. I saw her play Mary Queen of Scots in the Schiller play years ago. I was about to say the same thing. Mid-90s, directed by Richard Eyre if I recall. Tim Piggott-Smith in the cast too. I remember him getting a big laugh when interrupting some other characters to say 'Is this a bad time?'. I also seem to remember Huppert being interviewed and saying how excited she was to be coming to work in the greatest theatre city in the world and then later her being interviewed and slagging off the conventionality of the UK theatre. I don't think she enjoyed the experience of working on that production at the NT - it was very much a three-stars all round affair. Since then she seems to have mainly worked with auteurs such as Ivo van Hove and Robert Wilson |

Saw this in Paris during its original run... My two cents: probably one of the most frustrating and boring pieces I've ever had to sit through.
It's always a treat to see Isabelle Huppert on stage but this show was aggravating, save for a spectacularly beautiful (and almost out-of-place) scene near the end.
(Note that despite the English title, the piece is actually in French, with surtitles at the Barbican).

Completely forgot this was on general sale today! Managed to grab a single decent stalls seat for the Friday evening performance. So excited to see Huppert in the flesh!

Looking forward to this on Friday! Busy week for Huppert having attended the Met Gala.
Also just checked the Barbican site and there are three stalls seats still left for the Saturday matinee performance if anyone was still looking.

Also recently announced that she’ll be the Jury President of the Venice Film Festival, which will be this August and the kickstart of the annual Oscar awards season. It’s the first time that the Big 3 European film festivals - Berlinale, Cannes, and Venice have all female filmmakers as jury presidents within the same year - Lupita Nyong’o for Berlin, Greta Gerwig this upcoming Cannes, and Isabelle Huppert this coming Venice. Isabelle was previously a Jury President in Cannes, and that also means she’ll one day be a Berlinale Jury President.

Once in a while you come across a piece of work which is so astonishing it rocks you to your core and changes your life
Sadly this ain’t it
Mary chats a lot of sh*t repetitive and meaningless
Like Pinter and Beckett threw their overflowing slop buckets at you when your mouth and eyes were both wide open
90 mins of uncontrolled verbal diarrhoea which seems to be a stage trend as I found it similar to Dorian Gray in this respect
It does amaze and sadden me that some actors don’t realise you don’t always have to appear in unrelatable pretentious rubbish to be respected and liked
There is nothing wrong with acting to please people for enjoyment sake
This show made me hate theatre to the very existence of the art
Funny the Guardian awarded it 5 stars in a previous run
People can attend and pretend it’s art and console themselves they saw a moderately famous highly overrated actress
Do yourself a favour and get a credit note
Save your self respect time and dignity
