What's not to love!! An uplifting show that really gets your toes tapping. I do love a show that you hum to on the way home. I'd go again in a flash! I really don't see the point in reminiscing over previous productions in different theatres....accept the here and now. See it for what it is, a great evening at the theatre.

In full agreement with you. Every time I’ve seen it just makes me so joyful and happy when I come out of the theatre.

There might as well be no forum then, if we’re only allowed to say how great a current show is.

Is Alexandra Burke good in this? Going Monday Alexandra has always been great in whatever I've seen her in. Another clip just out:

Is Alexandra Burke good in this? Going Monday I'm sure she'll be fine - I don't enjoy her in shows (in any of the things I've seen her in) but appreciate she has a fan base and can sing well so I'm sure it'll be fine (having proper acting chops isn't a must for this production anyway...!)

I do think Alexandra will be good in this. I did think she sounded out of tune and pitch in the trailers I saw of the actor musician production but I thought she sounded a lot better with the recording of Sister Act.
Also I think it’s weird that on the website that no one is listed as playing Mary Theresa after June 10th because it was listed that Tricia Deighton was still playing the part on social media.

I've seen the show twice, once on Broadway with Patina Miller and Victoria Clark, and once just recently with Beverly Knight and Ruth Junes. Of course there was something thrilling about Patina Miller's performance, but I also enjoyed the more 'mature diva' soulful take and star power Beverly bought to the role. I cannot wait for the live cast recording. Ruth Junes was very funny as Mother Superior and you could hear a lot of good will from the audience given who she is, but it was striking to hear the difference between Victoria Clark who really brought the house down with her vocals compared with Ruth Junes who I would class a non-singer. I already predict Broadway/NYC theatre fans will heavily criticise the second they hear these vocals, unfortunate because I think if they saw Ruth Junes live and know who she is they would recognise it works.
I am very grateful I was able to experience the show both ways.

Victoria’s vocals were insane and I can definitely see the difference between her and Ruth. I thought Ruth was brilliant and was really surprised with her singing but I did think she did lack confidence in the singing, especially in Haven’t Got A Prayer. However I do prefer I Haven’t Got A Prayer being sung by a non-singer because I feel like the lower key of the song works much better with the emotional side of the song.

First time seeing the show tonight and Alexandra Burke's first performance in this version. She was good however I think I've finally sussed my issue with celebrity casting in musicals (surprised it's taken this long) When you put a talented singer in a show with seasoned trained musical theatre performers, it just feels a bit 'off' Tonight, Lesley Joseph and Lizzie Bea stole the show. It's fun enough but it definitely feels like a touring production in the West End. Saying that there is some stuff to really like, particularly enjoyed how colourful the set became towards the end and that there was actually a bit of an 'orchestra'

Is she as funny as Beverley? There were a few moments but not particularly. Almost all of the decent comedy came from the other nuns.

Apologies for the double post however, with time to contemplate, I have a few more observations. The first is that Burke’s big numbers reminded me more of a palladium panto performance, as in they felt stand alone, like a celebrity spot in a panto. That’s great in panto, and still ‘enjoyable here’ but stops the narrative and breaks character in a strange way when it’s in the body of an actual musical and with a cast around you. It doesn’t help when the audience treat these moments as a ‘celebrity spot’ with cheers (not moaning about people seeing the show having a good time, I didn’t mind, I cheered too, but it means you have to accept the performance as a separate thing)
Also, maybe someone can explain the change of ‘How I got the calling’ to ‘good to be a nun’ it was one of those times I really didn’t see the need to change the song and found the original stronger?…
Is there an added song towards the end for the Mother Superior character when she is at the desk?…this also isn’t on the recording.
Finally..,when is the full live recording out? Will be interesting to hear how Knight’s vocals compare.

"I Haven't Got a Prayer" was added for the Broadway run (the Mother Superior act 2 song) and people have been calling out for a recorded version for years as it's rather delightful! Likewise, that's when "How I Got the Calling" was replaced too, and I think is nearly universally missed by all fans of the show!

I have to say beside the obvious songs and ‘Fabulous Baby’ which is a BOP, I was surprised it was an Alan Menken score, many of the songs were meh and fairly one note. But perhaps the re-writes weren’t his work.

I do like It’s Good To Be A Nun as a song as I do think it’s funny but I think with the context of the show How I Got The Calling works better, particularly with Mary Robert. As for when the cast recording is being released Jamie Wilson said that it will be in the summer; so I’m hoping it’ll be released within the next coming weeks and not when the run is over.

The Alexandra video just backs up my decision to avoid her. Fuzzy vocals again. There's a tremendous voice in there somewhere but it sounds like it's coming from behind cotton wool balls in her mouth or something. So glad I saw Beverley!

Does Alexandra still stick her finger in her ear when she’s struggling to find a note? That’s going to be difficult wearing a wimple. On another note, it does make me laugh when Mother Superior puts Dolores’s cigarette inside her wimple to confiscate it!
