I was at the last night yesterday. I did the matinee and evening. Very exciting see a very dashing Jonathan Bailey in the audience. It was some what emotional. The cast definitely seem to love each other. There was an electric atmosphere radiating from them. I’ve enjoyed watching the rollercoaster of this show. The amazing swings. But there is something about having the whole main cast on this particular show that makes you forgive any shortcomings that come with the sketchy script. It seems with this show-the audience reaction every night I’ve been is what could see it tour really successfully. For me the cast and their unique personalities and voices are what makes this show. It’s so diverse and gives visibility to groups that mainstream audiences might not intentionally pay to go and see. To see a trans Freddie Mercury get a standing ovation from audiences who may wince at anything woke was really powerful. Anyway, now on to see OPENING NIGHT next week! The people have spoken for The Live Aid musical. It seems the people have spoken in a different way for opening night. Totally agree - this is a great show and a great cast. Audience responses have been fantastic. I look forward to seeing it evolve. |

I would have an issue with this. If I pay money to see a show, I want to see and hear the professionals, not the audience. |

If I pay money to see a show, I want to see and hear the professionals, not the audience. I agree though this show is SO loud (a bit like MJ) the audience singers tend to get drowned out. I've noticed it when I've been (a stupid amount if times) but tbh this show is also raising money so I care less about singing and more about the fact it is raising awareness and money (and obviously a profit for producers too). Also, the cast encourage it and mid-second half onwards it feels like a concert anyway. |

If anyone was going to be played by a trans actor then Freddie was the perfect character to choose. What the legend would have defined as in today's genders and pronouns I don't know maybe Freddie would have had his own "He/They/She/Freddie". The actual performer Freddie Love bears a strong resemblance to a younger Freddie Mercury and seemed to have a decent voice the bit I saw on Comic Relief so I think this was a fine bit of casting. The great Freddie Mercury had his songs sung by thousands of people who would have probably not been comfortable with Freddie's life choices but his music transcended everyone and he loved that and was loved for doing that. |

There was some discussion above about the title. I've just seen that the twitter account is @liveaidmusical so for social media they've already gone with the version that people will be how any word of mouth would casually refer to it.

All this talk of Freddie Love's fantastic vocals has made me have another watch of the iconic Queen Live Aid set on You Tube. It was a mind-blowing 20-minute vocal and musician masterclass by the great man and the rest of the band. His ability to control that Wembley crowd is just an absolute joy to watch and listen to. Every time I watch it, it just sends shivers down my spine. I'm just glad that event was recorded so that future generations can experience that iconic moment.

I thought all the comments upthread about it being ok to talk/eat/sing were all tongue in cheek?
Or are people seriously saying it's ok to do these things at this show?
(Although will add that these behaviours usually drive me mental, though I felt a modicum less annoyed about it at this show - but that was possibly as for me was a middling experience so I wasn't as precious as I usually am; plus it was very loud. Even so, my preference would be for a quiet audience!)
The audience are on the (long) list of reasons I won't be booking MJ......
Anyway, not sure I'd go again, but could for def see why some people love Just For One Day and I do hope it has a healthy future life!

However, as it's been taken as serious, I can't agree with the comment that the volume of the music makes singing along less of an issue than usual - not when people are sat right next to you; and (as happened when I went) what about when a song goes to a quiet part? So there we have Freddie getting to the end of 'Bohemian Rhapsody': "Nothing really matters".....long pause, audience member has to sing anticipating "to me" before the performer does. GTF!

Actually you're right about that. Bat Out of Hell was a loud musical I LOVED - and the singing along drove me mental. So was probably my relatively lesser connection with Just For One Day that rendered me less annoyed.... God knows what they do about it. At Bristol Hippodrome for Bat there was such a clear announcement specifically about not singing along - group of drunk Welsh women next to me literally laughed and one said "not sing along? How ridiculous, of course we're gonna sing along!" Another one then tapped woman in row in front and said "you don't mind if we sing along DO you?" in such a terrifying voice that there was only really one answer. Anyway, that is the kind of thing you are up against! |

Totally inappropriate to ruin the end of Bo Rap which is artistic licence to the show as that wasn't performed fully at Live Aid. There must be lots of sing-along parts in this show but the audience should leave it to the encore when in a lot of shows it is encouraged.

I wouldn’t want to cross her This was a different performance to mine but they (Freddie Love) looked pretty miffed. Don't blame them really as they absolutely nailed the Mercury charisma and the end of Bo Rhap is virtually iconic. Would enjoy seeing Freddie do other stuff as there is a beautiful operatic tone to their voice, not dissimilar to Mercury's. |

Bowie always seemed to be ahead of the curve somehow. I once heard the joke what came between Glam Rock and New Romantic and the answer is Freddie. Again the person playing Freddie can identify any which way they like but the performer had a very good voice and was well cast for the role which is all I care about. |
