From what I've heard of the project in its workshop stages it actually sounds great - Luke Sheppard certainly the hot director at the moment, so I think this will likely do really well.

Not crazy about this idea, especially when at least half of the artists who originally were part of Live Aid are still active. I'd rather hear the original artists in a one night only event than see * another * jukebox musical.

I hope they will change the title, because I assumed this was a single concert (just for one day) of a Live Aid Musical and not a full run.
Can't say I'm excited about another jukebox thing, but at least this time it's my era/style of music. None of the cast members mean anything to me so aren't an enticement to book.
I'll wait and see how this develops, which songs/artists are actually warmed up for this and what people are saying about the show.

It all sounds very self-aggrandizing and the idea of paying £90 for a musical about trying to end world hunger seems a bit ...weird. Maybe just send the money to an apprproiate charity instead?

I’m a bit confused about what form this will take. On the one hand, Bob Geldof says it isn’t going to be a tribute style show with impersonations of the performers, but praises Craig Els’ impression of himself presumably acting as compère.

From what I understand Geldof is the only 'real' person depicted, with everyone else being artists in the concert but not playing like, Freddie Mercury etc.
It sounds odd, but again from what I've heard, it works!

Anybody who remembers Live Aid probably realises the dramatic potential of the story behind it. The blood sweat and tears that went into mobilising the whole event, the purpose, the conflicts, egos etc. We are used to this kind of thing in 2023 but it was still a pretty unique event back in the day. This could be an incredible piece of theatre that goes way beyond the jukebox tribute suggested by some.

Isn’t it great that it’s not full of names that a shoe horned into a production to get bums on seats? I wish that was my deal breaker on if I should go and see a show or not…. But my theatre trips are all the richer for not being hooked im by Kerry Ellis and Lee Mead. |

Do you need to denigrate those who are keen to see their favourite performers and might take an interest in new shows they would not be interested in if it wasn't for them? Not that I need to explain myself to you, but I've booked plenty of shows and plays based on a subject that was of interest to me and without a care of who was in it. But similarly, I have booked for shows that didn't appear interesting to me because someone I liked was in them and discovered good shows (and some turkeys) this way. So get over yourself and let everyone make choices based on whatever matters to them, it's none of your business. |

I'm instantly interested. There's a fascinating story behind Band Aid and the Live Aid, plenty of drama along the way. Of course, we all know the outcome.
Glad that the charity is getting 10% of sales.
Curious if only Geldof is getting an impersonation, you'd have thought others (Midge for one) may have too, having been so involved from day one.
Count me in.

Bob Geldof is an icon - love him or loathe him, he is truly a one-off. Who can forget his "F*** the address, get the numbers on screen" (translated into the urban myth "give us your f***ing money now"). I was fortunate to work at Planet 24 Television, which he co-owned, and his charisma literally lit up the room wherever he went. As well as being a champion fundraiser, Bob is also an astute businessman and one of the most media savvy people around. Simply pumping out an interview with him today will have reached many times the audience that would otherwise have heard about this show. For me, will David Bowie introducing "Drive" by The Cars become a new "Bui Doi" moment for musical theatre? You could do so much theatrically with that song on its own. My abiding memory after the heat of that day, watching as a young boy, was being so locked on to the whole marathon of music, that I went to bed and listened to the American part of the show on my radio. I remember Cherish being played by Kool and the Gang as the thunder barrelled over my parent's home, and just crying in my bed at the memory of starving children my own age. It really affected me and shaped my thinking about the kind of world I wanted to live in and contribute to. I think this show has the potential to be powerful, moving, and awaken a new audience.

Just trying to ping the exact date the PwC tickets are released (always better chance if I block the slot in my working calendar). Does anyone heard anything? I called BO yesterday and they said I should have received the email on the same day but I’ve got nothing in my mailbox/spam still.. The mailing list notifications have been dodgy with me before so I’m wondering..
