Personally, I find it odd when comments are made about inanimate objects (i.e. 'the building') that can't confirm or deny allegations. Even if the comment is from a legitimate source, it could be one disgruntled person among many happy people. Regarding the "copious amounts of covers", the swings have been present from day one and it isn't unusual for a show to switch people so the covers get a few performances in. As somebody who has seen this show in double-digits, I can honestly say that I haven't seen a bad performance and all performances have been very well received. It would be an odd theatre that was unhappy with largely delighted audiences enjoying a great night out.
We know this show isn't to everybody's tastes, but I liken it to Only Fools and Horses in being a show that brings in people who might otherwise not have visited. Thankfully too, the Old Vic is a theatre that stands on its own two feet (just about) and is happy to make bold and brave choices about what to put on. Machinal, for example, is probably the better and more 'high-brow' of the two shows, but which one has sold better?

Final performance for me last night - as brilliant as ever. Five of us went and had the best time - will miss this show.

I'm sad I haven't managed to get there to see it again so am eagerly awaiting news of a transfer. I know my parents will love it too.

Its the details that aren't yet public, though I believe speculation was later this year in an ATG theatre (though others more in the know may be able to correct me/add a few more details)

Cast recording? WHY?
The show takes an incredibly diverse selection of songs, shreds them into little pieces, and imposes upon them a set of blandly polished arrangements that make them all sound like they've been ground out of the same musical sausage machine. The singers are great, but the arrangements work very hard indeed at making a series of thrilling pop songs sound like elevator muzak, and I can't imagine why anybody who knows anything at all about this music could possibly want a cast recording of this show, even given that the bland arrangements are performed by a great band and terrific singers.
(I did not love the show's arrangements. Does it show at all?)

Saw this last night and thought it was brilliant.
I ended up sat behind Bradley Jayden and Zizi Strallen too. That’s one talented couple.
Definitely one to see again when it transfers. Although I agree with an earlier comment about changing the name. They’d sell more tickets by just calling it Live Aid.

Why would they rename it Live Aid? It’s not Live Aid

The Girls sold infinitely more tickets when they changed the name to Calendar Girls The Musical...

Certainly, it lasted less than 6 months in the West End and was on seat filler constantly, and it did a 2 year UK tour mostly sold out at venues on the road 🙂

If it gets talked about, people are going to say "have you seen the Live Aid musical?" not "Have you seen 'Just For One Day'?" so they might as well do themselves a favour and roll with it.

When I was telling some friends I'd been to seen it (who go to the theatre but not regularly) I said I'd been to see "the Live Aid musical"

That is the vibe I got after sitting behind them for 2/3 hours. I could be wrong though.

I saw Zizi at the Palladium (looking stunning) for Side Show a couple of weeks ago. He was in that.

I was at the last night yesterday. I did the matinee and evening. Very exciting see a very dashing Jonathan Bailey in the audience. It was some what emotional. The cast definitely seem to love each other. There was an electric atmosphere radiating from them. I’ve enjoyed watching the rollercoaster of this show. The amazing swings. But there is something about having the whole main cast on this particular show that makes you forgive any shortcomings that come with the sketchy script. It seems with this show-the audience reaction every night I’ve been is what could see it tour really successfully. For me the cast and their unique personalities and voices are what makes this show. It’s so diverse and gives visibility to groups that mainstream audiences might not intentionally pay to go and see. To see a trans Freddie Mercury get a standing ovation from audiences who may wince at anything woke was really powerful. Anyway, now on to see OPENING NIGHT next week! The people have spoken for The Live Aid musical. It seems the people have spoken in a different way for opening night.

It doesn’t try and be new or different; rather it brings what people already love and feel safe with, and gives it to them. No worlds rocked. Nothing new or scary. And a show where you can openly sing a long and eat and drink without being shushed. We loved chatting about each memory as each new song rocked up. The fact that the cast all showed up for the final day… Made me emotional. More comfort food please. Less of the new.

And did everyone else who paid money want to hear you sing along, eat, drink and chat?
