Cineworld advertising a showing on 14th February.
Can only echo what everyone on here has reported, it was a very magical matinee. The music, dresses, vocalists, dancers and musicians were all wonderful.
Seeing performers who don’t appear in the UK very often was a treat. Standout performances who had me in tears, Julian Ovenden This nearly was mine and Audra McDonald Climb ev’ry mountain both so emotional and brilliant.
I will be booking a cinema ticket to see it again. I wonder if there is any chance it could be released on DVD?

This time last week still unaware I was about to see my show of the Year and some stunning vocal performances. This production was produced with the Rogers and Hammerstein organisation who being based in New York must have helped getting the broadway stars over. They do have a website which contains lots of info about the shows and creators and is worth checking out. rodgersandhammerstein.com/about/They also run a you tube channel of short clips. I think the strike in America has caused lots of issues for actors, so (if it was Emily in Paris) she likely understood she'd be able to get back to London in time but filming schedules have changed and she's more tied into that than she was to this. As it turns out she was posting from London in her IG last week. |

Yeah I have to admit, as much as I love Michael Ball doing his Michael Ball thing at times, I spent his performance wishing we got one of the gorgeous sopranos there performing You'll Never Walk Alone instead. And then maybe Julian doing Some Enchanted Evening.

£17.99 for Vue Printworks Manc. I've paid £21 for Wilmslow. It'll be a lovely Valentine's trip with my gentleman friend.  I did have a little peek at the song list, and I am again disappointed that nobody shares my love for State Fair. A duet of "Isn't it Kind of Fun", or a big ensemble "It's a Grand Night for Singing" would have been great. I have such a soft spot for the film — Dick Haymes's gorgeous voice, red-headed Vivian Blaine, Margie apparently having an ironing board set up in her tent for all those beautiful dresses that I'm sure a teenage farmer's daughter would have had, poor boring Harry and his ideas for a modernised farm, the mincemeat competition... I'm glad Cinderella is getting a bit more of an outing. I like most R&H though, so it was always going to be an easy sell! |

Looking forward to seeing the performances again and hopefully getting a tv showing and a streaming/blu-ray release soon. Will be interesting to hear your thoughts. I do hope there is a TV showing or DVD of this as its one of the best and classiest concerts I have seen on a long time. |

Another enchanted evening with this show and like all good shows it's let me relived my cherished memories of the original show but also offered many new aspects overlooked on the night.
Filmed in very high quality HD its powerful seeing these performances in full movie screen scale and in a way you cannot even experience front row at the theatre. I was surprised how moving and the emotional impact the songs had this time around.
There is no doubt this recording will have a release, hopefully worldwide and both streaming and physical. The quality of the HD picture is much more defined than most live recordings and even the credits have been carefully thought out.
One lovely touch is the full song credits are listed in the order of the show four at a time and not just the normal song scroll you get. All the cast, orchestra, chorus and dancers are fully credited in the credits which scroll over the carousel waltz, and which the whole cinema audience stayed to listen and watch right to the end!
It was also great that while the main show rightly belongs to the performers the orchestral suites which bookend the start and end are used to show close ups of the orchestra and give all a moment in the spotlight.
You get both Rita and Andrew Lloyd Webber speeches (ALW was very emotional and was nice to see as he only did this in the evening show so it was new to me) the only ommissions I could see were the anadotes from Audra about her audition fainting and Maria hiding stagehands under her king and I hooped skirt.
The only thing which was unfortunate was while the vocals capture is perfect and brought to the fore the 40 strong orchestra seems to have been downplayed and was no way the rich enveloping sweep it was at the theatre. This does seem to be a deliberate choice as it's all the way through and indeed the audience sound also seems quieter.
While in no way is the sound weak I had high hopes of hearing the show sound through a cinemas sound system and having heard live opera showings know the orchestral sound can be amazing.Showed this best with the Kansas city dance which should have been a rousing cacophony of tap and orchestra but the sound was way too muted compared to the energy on stage.
But very glad we have a recording of a true one day only event and a true tribute to Rogers and Hammerstein and wonderful how it let me see some broadway stars, Aaron, Patrick and Audra(who we meed back ASAP even if it's only a concert), also renewed the admiration for some I had seen before, Julian, Maria, but also allowed me to see why this board had been raving about Joanna Ampil and still introduced several new performers Lily and Johny. But as said in December everyone gave their all for this show.
There are only dimly lit shots of the audience until the end when there are a few quick shots of the bows behind the performers looking out and if you were in the central first ten rows you may spot yourself in a very quick moment of shared stardom .

Spent a brilliant afternoon at Showcase Cinema Dudley reliving the matinee performance, one of the highlights of my theatre going experiences in 2023. Excellent value at £13.30 for general seats, will be going back to see it again. Worth the money to hear the fantastic vocal performances, Audra and Julian outstanding, almost as emotional as seeing them live. Good to hear Jonny Labey as he had major microphone issues at the matinee.
The only other bit I can think of that wasn’t in the cinema version was Rita Moreno talking about Yul Brynner swearing when he stepped on things while barefoot.
