The Vaults is a dive. I went there to see Trainspotting Live and would never go back. People had paid good money and were sitting on the floor. There's immersive and then there's just taking the p!ss.

I've booked but only because this is my all time favourite show and my other half wants to know what all the fuss is about. When I saw the prices, though, my eyes nearly popped out my head. I guess there's not many seats so they need to make more money per seat - but, you know, then there's those prices...

Hope Mill is only 120 seats and it was still only £20. This is a great show but there's little in the way of sets and the band is small. Costumes are what you would expect of the era. Southwark can put on shows for £20 to £25 and it's a similar capacity to The Vaukts from what I can see.
Looks like cashing in on the 50 anniversary to me.

Which reminds me of one time queuing up to get into that den of iniquity Legends Club in Manchester. The price had been put up on this particular night because it was a fundraiser. John, the cashier was dealing with the usual "since when did it go up to ten quid" queries, calmly answering "it's for charity love" when some queen at the back of the queue screeched "WHAT CHARITY? YOUR HANDBAG?" |

I don't think you should have to justify a show with performances before or after. The show is what you are selling tickets for - nothing else! Either it is affordable to put it on or it's not.
I would love to see a different version of Hair but at these prices it won't happen.

If this was on at Southwark Playhouse, you pay £12, in a reasonably decent venue. I haven't seen a musical on sale for less than £18 at the Southwark and that was the preview price. It's more around £25 lately isn't it? What did you see for twelve quid and how many people were in it? |

If you use the pay-as-you-go subscription at Southwark you get 5 tickets for £60, so technically £12 a ticket I suppose? I feel ticket prices are weirdly put for this. They seemed be going for a similar vibe to Secret Cinema with all the add on stuff talked about in the press release, but the prices are much lower than Secret Cinema's, so I'm worried the production might end up in an awkward middle where you feel like you've overpaid for a piece of theatre, instead of getting an "experience" at a cheeper rate than SC. |

Yep, payg gives you 5 tickets which never expire for £60, you can use up to 2 per performance. Great bargain Not sure why they call it "pay as you go" since it's actually the opposite of that |

Yeah, Pay As You Subscription, insanely underpriced and gives exceptional value for money. However if you rock up at the box office and lay down £25 that is still exceptional value for money, considering the high production values they have.
One of the best theatres in the UK.

I agree, for London the Southwark is brilliant value (I don't think it's very fair throwing their PAYG price into the mix though, most people will not commit to that). Don't know about other producers, but one repeat widely praised producer at Southwark pays cast members just £100 a week, peanuts indeed. (See: www.thestage.co.uk/news/2016/producer-danielle-tarento-paying-equity-fringe-minimum-would-prevent-large-scale-work/ The "as much as budget would allow" bit refers to there being profit share on top, but that is obviously reliant on there being a profit which there may or may not be)) I'm all for bringing the cost of tickets up a bit if it means that company members get a liveable wage. We all love a bargain, but there has to be a cost somewhere. |

Well for those prices I expect a lot of that money will go into the production, ya know some lavish costu...oh yeah, that's right it's HAIR.

Cast sounds pretty good - not sure I love the dancing though! Hair runs the risk of looking twee and inauthentic if there is too much synchronisation.
