Core Theatre, Solihull, closed until the end of November. I know several people who have been rehearsing amateur shows that have been cancelled

THe Core Theatre always does a good panto so they will really need that to be able to run for financial reasons.

St David's Hall in Cardiff, originally closed in August for four weeks, then until the New Year, will now be closed until 2025 given that some of the ceiling has been categorised as Red-Critical and is at risk of sudden collapse. They hope to get it open again for the next BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition in July 2025. The deal between the Council and the Academy Group for the latter to take over management of the venue is now under renegotiation...

Two theatres in Scotland scheduled for closure as the cost of repair is apparently uneconomic, the Brunton Theatre in Musselburgh and Motherwell's Concert Hall and Theatre. I doubt that either of these venues will be replaced by equivalent theatre facilities given the constraints on local authority finance these days. I fear that RAAC will prove to be a convenient excuse for several local authorities to close expensive venues.
And, to follow up on my previous post in this thread, BBC Cardiff Singer of the World will not take place in 2025, I have no idea why they could not find an alternative venue given that they have had a lot of notice about St Davids Hall, which is now not expected to reopen until 2026.

The Brunton Theatre seems to have decamped successfully to the Loretto School, and I suspect this will become permanent, although entertainment / academic dual use has proved problematic elsewhere in the past. Motherwell are using - sporadically - a temporary conversion of a sports hall, which looks dire (both in atmosphere, location and facilities). The Theatre and Concert Hall is scheduled for demolition, having had £6+million spent on the building in 2011. I would agree that new replacements are extremely unlikely.

The decision not to relocate Cardiff Singer to a different venue is hard to understand. It is always a major cultural highlight and it runs the risk of never returning if we are not careful. I have been avidly watching for 35 years and always set aside time to follow the competition very closely.

Any news on when the orchard will actually reopen. The new temp space is pretty poor Orchard West is programmed up to the beginning of February, and the Orchard's website states "It is home for the entire Orchard Theatre programme until early January 2025 when maintenance on the Orchard Theatre will be complete." There is then a gap until June 2025, when programming in the original theatre resumes. I suspect they are being cautious about the reopening date and will reopen in the late Spring, I believe the delays are down mainly to having to upgrade the fire safety provisions in light of new regulations.
