The Tracie part needs an Angela Lansbury not someone doing a forced bleat. The girls all look like mature hoofers but then it must be tricky getting fit ones to take their clothes off. The lead one lacks any charisma. The book is all over the place in what story is being told. The music is unremarkable and the lyrics painfully trite. 2/10 All women are beautiful. All the women in the show are beautiful. The nudity is about art, not who is fit and who should get their bits out. The women probably took on the challenge of the show as such and agreed on this basis. |

Left this at the interval People just don't learn with new musicals do they? Makes it a runaway hat trick after Nell Gwynne and Pina Bausch this week May beat my own record as seeing Uncle Vanya tonight  |

Never quite see the point of leaving a show in the interval unless I am taken ill.
The comment about the girls not being 'fit' is unnecessary, this isn't a show shouting 'come look at these flawless size zero beauties in the nude', the vast majotity of females in the world don't look like that. The whole scene in the art gallery points that out.

I didn't enjoy the show very much, but the second act was actually better, so it's your lost (but I understand you).
The comment on the girls was gratuitous and mean, the fact that they aren't anorexic doesn't make them less good-looking (and, with all the flaws of the show, the nude scenes are tasteful and well done)

Never quite see the point of leaving a show in the interval unless I am taken ill. Me neither. I've only ever done it once, years a go for a play (I won't name it) but I was sat at the back utilising a free ticket. But never for a musical. |

And also, do remember, at the time the show is set in history, women were not fed with images of size zero models like they are these days, so women would have their natural bodies like the beautiful women in this show do.

If you go to the box office on the day I'm sure they'd happily give you a best available for £25. Front row is sold in advance, can't comment on price if it's top price or slightly reduced though.
Emma has two big solos and a few parts in other songs.

I saw this last night and enjoyed it, particularly Emma Williams and the charming set (the moon, the shift from backstage to audience, the Victorian statue.) But I did think that if a Martian landed in London and only saw 'Gypsy' and 'Mrs Henderson Presents,' the Martian would report back that on earth young women can only find meaning to their lives by stripping - and it is the role of tiny older women to encourage them to do so.

Good to see the misogyny displayed earlier being challenged; there was a streak of such on the old board but here you get a better sense of who is male/female with those strange pawn-like things next to people's names.
I'm seeing this on Thursday. After being disappointed by Kinky Boots/Grey Gardens/Wonder.land the least I'm hoping for is some decent songs and three dimensional characters. That's not too much to ask for from a new musical is it?

Saw this tonight and really enjoyed it. Thought the story felt a bit flat and some of the songs sounded very samey, but I didn't go in expecting it to be fantastic and so was pleasantly surprised. The title song was brill. And I liked If Mountains Were Easy To Climb. some other songs were also good though I can't remember them now. Cast I thought was very good, although the guy playing Vivian (I should really get my programme out and check names) was not blessed with the most thrilling songs and they did all tend to merge into one.
I thought the story lacked a real gut punch moment (although the end of act 1 was quite striking) which I think is my main quibble with it.The nudity isn't made a big deal of, it's done tastefully and although it's full frontal it never feels shocking or rude.
I must agree though that the misogyny on here displayed by a couple of members is quite disheartening, as I thought every one of the women looked very much like normal women, and every one of them was beautiful. Emma Williams is so lovely, her voice was beautiful and she had a couple of great songs.
I liked this, although really it was nothing special and I can't see myself returning to see it again, but it did make for a nice evening out.

Also saw this last night and enjoyed it, though I did struggle to stay awake given the hour (not a reflection on the show itself) and thought it wasn't as remarkable as the reviews from Bath had suggested (I know it's still previewing and there have been changes), but better and more worthwhile than some of the recent reviewers found it.
The songs seemed generally fine to me, with a couple of stand-outs, likewise the cast and the audience (theatre looked very full from where I was in the dress circle) were very enthusiastic. I can't recall the film very well but am sure the plot has been changed as the second act seemed to lose its way a little and not to end with any particular resolution or development, or if so, it was too muted.
I couldn't sum up my experience better than talkstageytome did in the previous post, i.e. I couldn't see myself returning - but then I only see shows once - but it was a pleasant evening's entertainment.

It's a bad musical because of the scattergun book, bland songs, piss poor lead casting and performance. The use of smashed unattractive people is incidental - they won't save it whatever shape or gender is used. Of course there may be a quarter of a million beautiful women who disagree.

Saw this last night.
All very average and average, except Emma Williams steals the show and has the best song by a mile 'if mountains were easy to climb', but tthe book is poor except a couple of really funny moments, I was way back say didn't see much liver and bacon.

I was aware the post was edited as I read the original which had then been altered by the time I had made my reply.
As a point of information, edits made can't be seen if viewing on the mobile site which is how I often view this forum, so for me I was unaware who had edited the post, be it a moderator or the original poster, I just knew it had been altered (but as I say, only because I happened to arrive here before the language was cleaned up).

The recording for this is released on Friday, the same day I'm going to this.
Hopefully it will be available to buy at the theatre (although I do prefer online retailers, as Amazon would no doubt list it at a cheaper price).
There's a nice quality to taking home a brand new recording on the day.
