I'm confused, I thought this was always meant to be a limited run? The signs outside the Noel Coward whe I walked passed it yesterday said "Limited Run". Was it just that an actual closing date wasn't confirmed until now?
I don't really know anything about this nor have intentions to see it (but would be open-minded of course!), but the song played at the Olivier's last Sunday didn't sound that great to me. I don't mean Emma or Tracie's vocals, both the music and lyrics just sounded poorly written. Almost like a monologue with an inconsistent melody.

I commented on the Oliviers performance in another thread but I'll say again here that they should have been promoting the show's number one asset which is Emma Williams and the girls. The Olivier number should have been Emma's fan dance. That would have grabbed the attention they so desperately needed.

The real question now is... what is next for the theatre it is housed in?

What a shame, really enjoyed this show. I'll be seeing it one last time in three weeks - so happy they are doing Thursday Matinees.

The Olivier number should have been Emma's fan dance. That would have grabbed the attention they so desperately needed. I agree, in fact I think the show was a great opportunity wasted. I thought it could have been a lot better but most people who went seemed to really like it, the problem is/was that there weren't enough of them.
It was always going to be a niche audience (not a family show, not one that most tourists would immediately want to see, probably not one that a lot of under 30's would want to see), I thought the marketing was diabolical (Spitfires flying past a smoking St Paul's on the website, I ask you) and the positioning of the nudity (in the marketing) was ambivalent to say the least.
Unfortunately when it closes I think we will have seen the last of it in this country, why would it tour? I know it is booked to appear in Canada in Feb 2017 but I imagine they expected that to be off the back of an extended run here. Now they'll have to plan on starting from scratch again.
Having said all that, I might well go again.

I've suddenly hatched a private theory that the decision to "post the notice" may have in fact been taken - or at least heavily influenced - by Mrs Mallardo...
No, I asked her. She denies it.

I'm confused I thought 18 June was when it was due to end? All it means is that its not extending.

It certainly had plans to tour and has venues pencilled in currently. But whether ticket sales in London have caused the Producers to rethink their plans for the show's post-London life, I don't know.

I think a tour of this show could do well. West End success and Tour success are often very different things, and you can certainly have one without the other (look at The Full Monty - about to begin its third tour).

No, I asked her. She denies it. Ah, a lady who prefers to know exactly where her man is, then? Or just believes that every man should have a hobby?
Since you asked, TM, let's just say that Mrs. M, a former actress herself (3 Broadway credits), "understands".

The real question now is... what is next for the theatre it is housed in? I've got a huge feeling it could be the big news for The Girls that Baz keeps going in about!! It seems like a good theatre to go too. any ideas?

Also, I think it it won at the Oliviers then maybe a short extension would occur but I think they decided not to lose money and close on a "high"

If one show about naked women can't work, are they gonna throw another show about naked women into the same theatre so fast?

I imagine The Girls needs a bigger theatre than the Noel Coward. The Phoenix might be an option once Guys and Dolls finishes its run in October.

I hate to say I told you so...
But given its sales in Bath, it could do ok in the home counties, Cheltenham, York and other gathering places of genteel theatre folk.

You may well be right, but I very much doubt this is the way it was supposed to end up, given the names backing this project. But there are still over two months to go in London! How do actors usually react to this kind of thing? It must be different to the end of a long successful run and the close notice must have come as a huge disappointment, they must have thought (especially after Bath) that they were in at the start of something really big - a long run in the WE, maybe Broadway (the one in New York, not the one near Cheltenham). So now they're in a show that will get next to no promotion or publicity as it runs to the end. Does professional pride keep them going strong to the last, or do they start looking for other work and disengage? Certainly their twitter feeds have quietened over the past couple of days (Ok, I'm an anorak).

I don't think any of the old hands would be surprised- the writing has been on the wall since the start of previews. The bigger names will be lining up other work, whilst junior cast members may hold out for work in a possible tour to follow.
Right now, the only people really fighting the show's corners will be those with money in the production!

I imagine you'd get an inkling that a show wasn't doing well just by looking out into the audience night after night.

Yes , all those empty seats at the back of the stalls are a big clue.
If The Girls do go in then you just get one crap musical replace another one.
Could be a certain American play with Jeremy Irons and Leslie Manville?
