Oh, stop being so melodramatic. It’s not a new storyline, it’s the exact same story it’s just being tweaked as many, many, many musicals have been over the years have been. The recent London revival of Anything Goes is almost completely different to the very first production, in fact it changes practically every time it’s revived. That is what they said read Burly's post. A new ending, really. Again. Lots of musicals have gone similar changes. The recent Broadway revival of My Fair Lady changed the ending. And if this Jekyll&Hyde is set in modern day London then it’s no different to the recent West Side Story revival being set in modern day. It’s Jekyll&Hyde, the story is going to remain the same - it’s not as if they’re taking the music and adding it to the plot of Braveheart. It’s only this one production, they’re not erasing the original production and pretending it doesn’t exist. Theatre should constantly be evolving and adapting.

Following Mr Barnabys comments in another thread I thought this rumour deserved its own thread.
Curious to see where it will be staged,
I think Ramin would be great casting. And he would draw an audience to. He has a decent size following.

Not the first place I’ve read this rumour so I do hope it comes about. That said, there’s also the rumoured Ramin/Lea Michele Chess revival on Broadway this season.

Karimloo has a great voice, but I’m not sure his following is that large (and I’m not sure it really extends beyond the theatre-going public, despite his television appearances). I think to sell a production based on a performer’s name is very difficult these days; the star name does really need to be a star! I would happily sit through a performance of this, though.

Am I right in thinking that this has only ever toured over here, never a W/E season?

It depends on the venue but his following is over 300,000 on social media (michael ball has less than a 3rd of that for example). They are also quite fiercely loyal and travel to see him. Across the world if necessary, as they have done before. He is also quite big in Japan. His solo uk tour sold very well in some pretty big theatres a number of years ago. Assuming it's in the UK then its his first proper show here in many years here (aside the odd concert) I'm not saying he is a star that will sell out the palladium night after night, but for a musical theatre name he is pretty big and certainly would help sales to some degree. Especially in a smaller venue on a limited run.

Oh, but he has a very large following, not only in Europe and the US, but in Asia as well! He was the biggest draw in the Italian production of Phantom, no question (I say this from first hand experience, the screams at the stage door were something else ). I think he would definitely draw an audience. I'm wondering if this production related to this or a completely new thing? www.whatsonstage.com/london-theatre/news/new-revival-of-jekyll-and-hyde-musical_55407.html/theatreboard.co.uk/thread/9078/jekyll-hydeI've been waiting for news about this new revival for ages since it was announced, I was very excited since Wildhorn said in the Frank and Friends concert in London last year that they were reworking the ending (for one of the characters) ...

Didn't they workshop this a few years ago? Wasn't it rumoured to be reworked to be set in modern London? To be honest, if there is one thing I learned from the Wildhorn concert back in 2022 is that Frank promises everything. During the concert, Dracula was mentioned and he promised a Dracula London run. Count of Monte Cristo was mentioned and he told us to "keep our eyes open". Death Note was mentioned and he promised a London run (although I guess we are getting the concert!). At the stage door (literally the only time in my life I've stage doored anything!), we spoke about Rudolf - The Last Kiss. He told me that he was "trying" for a London run. So whilst I Wildhorn and I Jekyll and Hyde... I'm not too optimistic. Hasn't every single Broadway attempt ended up as a financial flop? It would work somewhere like the Arts or Charing Cross, I think.

I saw Jekyll & Hyde on Broadway in 97 (I believe) and I have the David Hassellhoff Broadway DVD.
As much as I enjoy the music- with the exception of the lyric To kill outside St. Paul's requires a lot of balls'- the show itself, I'm afraid, it a bit meh.
I truth, not much happens. It all looks a bit cramped on stage and I was disappointed and a little bored.

Yes please to a London run and please no (oh god) to Ramin… at least make an attempt to find someone closer to Anthony Warlow… (1994 complete work recording best recording)

I don’t think this is intended for London. It’s certainly do a season outside London.

Eddie Izzard is playing a trans Doctor Jekyll in a filmed version with Lindsay Duncan, Jonathan Hyde and Simon Callow. It will be shown in UK cinemas only from 27th October. Lots of theatre talent in this.

I believe it was supposed to be at the Lowery, with Rachel Tucker, directed by Jonathan O'Boyle. But they've both moved on to other things now.

Wait so this is actually happening? A tour with Ramin? I can't imagine Ramin would do a tour, surely? He went to Broadway because the money's better than the West End

He went to Broadway because the money's better than the West End That’s what confused me I didn’t think he would do a UK tour. Unless he’s doing a London stint and someone else is taking it on tour. When is this due to be announced does anybody know?
