I'm surprised Hasbro didnt opt for Transformers or GI Joe as a musical. Given all the Hasbro properties aside from those have flops as films, I'm surprised they're even considering stage musicals. Perhaps My Little Pony is on the development slate as well

I'm surprised Hasbro didnt opt for Transformers or GI Joe as a musical. Given all the Hasbro properties aside from those have flops as films, I'm surprised they're even considering stage musicals. Perhaps My Little Pony is on the development slate as well There's a My Little Pony movie scheduled for release next year, and the current TV show has won quite a few awards for its acting and music. Hasbro has had considerable success dramatising a number of its properties, producing several animated TV shows itself and contracting out comics to IDW, and even majority-owned a TV channel for a while. But those properties have the advantage of actual characters and, in the case of the TV shows, appealing animation. A live action version of something that has no characters to start with seems like a bizarre choice. What sort of adventures can a hat go on? The year it got lost down the back of the sofa? Admittedly I had similar reservations about the storytelling possibilities of Lego but found The Lego Movie far better than I expected, but at least with Lego you can build a world that has a distinctive style. Where can you go when Monopoly is your starting point? It's almost as if it's some sort of challenge to make the project as difficult as possible, like trying to write a short story using only the letters from the bottom letter-row of the typewriter keyboard. |

Battleship proved how badly you can adapt a concept into a film. Transformers works because it's giant robots fighting giant robots and works in TV and film even if the stories leave a lot to be desired. The Lego Movie worked because of the directors Lord and Miller crafted a great story and I think even if Warner Bros hadn't loaned their best characters also persuaded other companies to license their properties, it still would have been a great film |

MOUSETRAP: The Musical - In this sequel to SNAKES & LADDERS, the frazzled manager of the B&Q Megastore has just got his store up and running again, but disaster looms when work experience lad Kevin Shortbottom brings his pet mice to work...and they make a break for freedom!
OPERATION: The Musical - When Sally Arbuckle is admitted to hospital with appendicitis, she's at the mercy of rookie surgeon Chester Muckitup. Will the operation be a success, or will Sally engage the services of Ambulance chasing lawyer Warner Payout?

Or draughts. It uses the same set as chess, but the characters feel kind of indistinguishable...

I saw Cluedo the musical at the Edinburgh fringe festival a few years ago and it was surprisingly good!

No idea how that show was, but that makes most sense as a Boardgame to be turned into a musical. (Unless you want to start looking at Risk or Settlers of Catan.) Clue the Movie is one of my all time favourites. |
