Peter Serafinowicz might be a good choice for this. I am totally on-board with this casting idea! Don’t think he has done much stage/live work, but his current Brian Butterfield tour is proof he is a brilliant character performer. Have you been able to see the Brian Butterfield tour? I'm very jealous, it sold out so fast - I nearly choked on my bonbonbonbons!

It was such an honour to be in the presence of none other than the Lord Mayor’s Croupier himself. A truly “increbible” evening, I hope he does more dates so you can go!

Spotted in the introductory page of the Sondheim’s Old Friends’ program/brochure by Cameron Mackintosh: “Next year, the World stage premiere of the jet black comedy classic Dr Strangelove is opening in one of our theatres starring a huge film and stage star, soon to be announced. (…) Within the next two months we’re going to be announcing three sensational new productions for next year which you’ll not want to miss.”

My thoughts exactly!!! There were reports months ago that he’s eyeing to return on stage, preferably a musical (Spamalot revival on Broadway comes to mind as the casting of Sir Lancelot is still not announced)…I think he’s down for anything, whether a musical or drama. Plus he’s also active in the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes so his screen projects are on hold.

"a huge film and stage star" - doesn't fit Cranston. He's a huge TV and stage star but I don't think you could call him a film star. Also, who knows if they're doing any gender swapping.

For some reason my mind is jumping to Sam Rockwell.

Kevin Spacey would be good casting for it. Unlikely, I know.
It's one of those films that I thought was great at the time but which I'm not sure has aged well - bit like the Ealing comedies.

Not a chance with Spacey Cranston could work. The 'major film star' is s bit of hype. Mark rylance also comes to mind

There is absolutely no way it will be Spacey. Bryan Cranston is brilliant of course- but he’s been on stage quite a bit in recent years.
I’m hoping it’s someone that we haven’t seen in stage here before- a genuine Hollywood star.

Oooh now I'm even more interested! Love him. He could easily play multiple roles if they go down that route.

I'm sure Steve Coogan will be very good in this, but is it not a stretch calling him a stage star?

Is this another one actor play, or do we think there’s a supporting cast?

Is this another one actor play, or do we think there’s a supporting cast? Article linked above says the lead, so assume there are other cast members.

I'm sure Steve Coogan will be very good in this, but is it not a stretch calling him a stage star? he's sold out stadiums "performing" as Partridge, and I guess that's a character... on a stage...?
