As a Brummie and a fan of both Grayson and Richard Thomas' work in Jerry Springer: The Opera, I must say I am very excited by this!

Thanks for posting. I am also very excited by this news. I wonder if Grayson is planning to play himself? The article says singing is his latest thing. If he's not in it, then who could play him?

You could ask that about any new musical that isn't based on a film or a back catalogue.

Just seen that Sooz Kempner's (currently in Withnail and I at the Birmingham Rep) website mentions she was involved in a workshop for this;

March 24th 2024: I took part in the third workshop of brand new musical, Grayson: The Musical, with lyrics by Grayson Perry, music by Richard Thomas and script by Sara-Ella Ozbek. I played the dual role of Grayson's mother and his wife, Philippa. Good LORD I love musical theatre.

Thought I'd then look at Sara-Ella Ozbeck's website to see what else she's done and saw that it mentions a bit more information;

Sara-Ella is also active in the theatre space, developing a GRAYSON PERRY musical along with the artist, composer Richard Thomas (JERRY SPRINGER THE OPERA) and director Sean Foley (THE PLAY WHAT I WROTE) For the Birmingham Rep and The Old Vic.

With the recent announcement of Foley stepping down from the Rep, I wonder if this means they'll now skip Birmingham and just open it at the Old Vic? Feels like it will need a regional premiere somewhere before going to London (but I'm hoping it will still stay at the Rep!).
