Second time tonight and have to say the show has transferred really well to the Prince Edward stage. I can recommend the Loges, the price is worth it for being so close to the stage with minimal restrictions.

I’m hoping to get a few more visits in too |

Must have been enjoying myself. Will take extra snacks. Hahahaha yes it was that long at NT as I couldn’t make the 2220 train out of Waterloo. Still can’t as it takes more than 20 mins for me to get to Waterloo from PE theatre. Jan shou,d be better as the train company is putting on a 2250hrs train so I’ll get home at 0030hrs instead of 0120hrs. Gives me a few extra minutes sleep before I get up for work at 0530! |

Would really like to see this. We’re considering taking a football mad 13 year old but worried it might not be suitable. For those who’ve seen it, any thoughts? Don’t want to book it and then find it’s completely inappropriate!

It’s fine for a 13 year old IMHO I saw this at the NT and just found it underwhelming It reminded me of pantomime acting I wish James Graham would go back to writing wholly original characters and stories I for one am bored now by his takes on events and characters The roles are all 2D and for me it felt like a cross between a school play and a lecture |

Finally saw it and thought it was good
The problem was the 2 hour 50 minute running time. Too indulgemt. Similar to This House covering a topic with many personalities except that felt tight and to the point. Here James Graham tries to cover a lot but then spreads himself too thin.
There were entertaining moments I enjoyed. Such as the Russia penalty shootout that managed to gain a some tension when we all know the result
But other times I kept thinking okay we’ve got the point can we move on now. And the second act lost focus for me as it rushed through the tournaments
Great performances from the main leads and some others. Nice choreography.

This one wasn’t on my radar to watch during its original NT run however the positive reviews from from board members and the critics made me change my mind when the transfer to the PE was announced. With both my mum and sister also interested in seeing this one, I got us tickets for today’s matinee. As 3 people who don’t really have much interest in football, after the 2hrs 50 minutes, we all thought this was a really enjoyable play from James Graham.
All the main cast were on and we wall agreed JF nailed his portrayal Southgate in both his body language and speech. The rest of the cast were good fun as the England team and the different personalities such as the different England managers, PM’s.I was really impressed with Dervla Kirwan as Pippa Grange.
A nice blend of comedy and drama, particularly the 2 penalty shootout scenes. Even though you knew the outcome, the staging of them in this show was just as dramatic and full of tension as seeing the real things play out on tv.
A simple set backed by some lovely use of video, sound design and choreography.
Rating - 5⭐️

I'm not sure it will translate without a deep knowledge of English culture. I loved it, I don't follow football but as an Englishman in England I am fully aware of the cultural baggage around it. Without that and knowledge of "soccer" I think audiences might struggle. I wish them luck. |

All true, but don't overlook the "Welcome to Wrexham" factor - that programme is doing incredible work in showcasing 'soccer' to a US audience, so a limited run could do OK. |

Tammy might do fine if the cast is good but Dear England has little chance to sell out. Considering it's currently playing at the Prince Edward which is anything but small, perhaps it stand a chance. Plays in musical houses aren't unusual on Broadway, Wolf Hall played the Winter Garden and Harry Potter is currently at the Lyric. |

The last play at The Palace was Frankenstein and that was an historic flop. |
