I would love to see this if only for Kerry Ellis but the prices... would it really hurt to do some tickets under fifty pound in the stalls?! Just some!

Can Denise Welsh do other accents apart from her natural geordie? If not its going to be interesting. Not a fan of the venue as its far to big for this type of thing. Even if it's discounted I'm not going to bother with this. Does anyone else remenber the Queen Mother on Spitting Image had Beryl Reid's voice? Lol yes! It was genius!

Awful venue utterly unsuitable for MT, in concert form or otherwise. Overpriced. Seemingly unnecessary doubling up of Diana role. Interesting casting (love Dame Ellis and ‘Ar Denise but never saw them as these roles). Whole thing sounds like high camp iconic chaotic fun. Count me in. Booked. Can’t wait!
Fees are absurd but totally normalised for these venues. In fact I expect Diana ones much much cheaper than seeing a pop “star” there.

Can't wait!

I got a ticket to the main event. I don't even care: theatrical event of the year.

Bizarre casting. Bizarre concept. Bizarre venue. But I guess it'll sell!

Isn't Taylor Swift dating Denise Welch's son? Perhaps they're hoping she'll turn up in the audience.
I can imagine a headline about checking out what she'd be like as a M-I-L.

Bit disappointed in Kerry Ellis stooping so low and joining this show!

If she can do a UK tour of Wonderland, she can easily do this 1 off concert.

It’s in TodayTix app without all the fees, NGL I am tempted to go for a £46 band. The whole cult flop thing + Kerry Ellis is a draw for sure.
Thought process is going like: Diana the musical - ah why not could be fun! In concert - meh, but alright With Kerry Ellis - oh yes definitely then! And Denise Welch - sorry what? Why……why would they do that?
Denise Welch released one single - a cover of “You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me’ - in 1995. Found a video of her singing it 4 years ago - scroll to the end when she gets up and has the microphone - see what you think!
I don’t know Maiya Quansah-Breed, but quick google tells me she’s another Six alumna so I’m assuming she’s a decent performer and brings in the yoof theatre kid crowd, why is her casting a problem though? Are those comments purely due to her skin colour or am I missing something?
Eddie Izzard could be either awful or hilarious if that rumour is true, I simultaneously find him reasonably entertaining (used to be very bloody funny back in the heyday of Dress to Kill) and also an incredibly irritating human.

Double casting the role in general is silly, but if they're going to do that, then absolutely her skin colour is an issue. They're casting a real person who people remember, and even disregarding that, there is an older version of the same character in the show, who is white. Just pushes it further into the ridiculous. Shows which do colour blind castng normally have the sense to match up younger/older versions.
Maybe they just decided it didn't matter as it's a concert production. I'd love to hear their excuse for Denise Welch though, that song was painful.

I think because it's a concert production it doesn't really matter. But if it transfers it might get a bit of side-eye. I mean Diana was a real person very familiar to pretty much everyone across the world.

Oh ok, I respectfully disagree, I really don’t see that the actors’ skin colour is an issue at all, either in relation to Diana herself or younger/older versions of the same character within a show. I think it can all be made very clear with costuming/dialogue and I just accept that’s who that is and move on, don’t give it a second thought.
Frozen does it all the time, the majority of current Young Elsas are girls of colour. Last time I went, an Asian Young Elsa grew up into a white Elsa, and a white Young Anna grew up into a black Anna, and I don’t think anyone in the audience was confused as to who was who! Sylvia had a majority BAME cast, Jennie Churchill was even caricatured as a cliché of a battleaxe Caribbean mama and berated Winston with the punchline “hear me now!” - and I don’t think anyone was confused who any of them were, even though the real-life people they portrayed were white.

If the show has a particular "concept" like Six or Hamilton, it works. If it is supposed to be a more (even if somewhat camp) naturalistic portrayal of a recent and very famous public figure I don't feel it really does. You would never cast a white or Asian Desmond Tutu for example. Or a white Tina Turner.

With MQB my issue is that you have two older white actresses and her as a younger mixed race actress all playing the same part. I've no issue with colour blind casting but it has to be consistent and cannot be done this way. If you had a BAME actress playing Camilia that's fine but not when it is the same person. But being cynical if they had two black actresses playing the older parts with MQB as the younger incarnation is that any different to what they have now. Maybe this sort of show can get away with it. Six is totally colour and nationality blind and it is huge so I'll give this a pass on the casting.

Just everything about this is sounding next level iconic.
Can’t wait to hear who’s gonna play Camilla, Charles and the porous rock Paul Burrell!
