Torquay is a silly venue. Very limited. 5 or 6 tiny dressing rooms. You often have to hire in portacabin to turn into a band pit and another for ensemble dressing space. The vibe very much feels like ATG have anything to do with it.

The Princess Theatre has posted a video of the curtain call to Instagram, however it’s all done in front of the front cloth and doesn’t raise for the final appearance of Chitty and her “bow” unlike the other venues I’ve seen. Presuming the stage is just too small to have the full cast and the car together!

The Princess Theatre also put on TikTok that the show had 6x portacabins set up outside for dressing rooms and storage with a Paul Matthew truck being a quick change area. Also one of the portacabins was the band “pit”!

A very interesting review of the Torquay production on the latest Musical Talk podcast... She really didn't like it "It was like an A-Level production"... Well worth a listen!

Well if it was in Torquay she saw it in it is basically an A Level production. I will really want to see the set of Sister Act in that theatre when it visits there (though it does appear to look fine in some of the smaller venues the production has visited). I know the show appeared to change a few things when it visited Belfast because of the size of the Grand Opera House but it definitely has a lot more room than the Princess Theatre. |

I had a really great night last night at the Liverpool Empire watching this. With Adam Garcia not available we had Callum Train as Caractacus Potts who I will say was fantastic in the role and along with the rest of the cast and the iconic car, this touring production was an absolute joy to watch after seeing the Palladium production.
With the cast, I certainly have got no complaints on any of the casting either in the acting or singing, With plenty of energy and laughs on stage the audience was certainly having a fun night seeing this one. The quartet of Martin Callaghan (Baron), Jenny Gayner (Baroness), Adam Stafford (Boris) and Michael Joseph (Goran) milked the humour of the show for all it was worth and both Adam and Michael certainly would make a great double act in panto based on my viewing. The 2 kids on last night certainly more than held their own alongside their older cast members. The Vivienne made for a great Child Catcher. Of course the real star is the car, and it's appearance at the end of Act 1 quite rightly got a big cheer on its appearance and seeing it fly again certainly didn't disappoint. It is still able to have that wow factor even after all these years.
With that wonderful score from the Sherman brothers brought to life, there really are some great songs in the show. It was just a shame that at times during ensemble numbers the lyrics were not always audible. Though solo or duet numbers didn't have that issue.
With the staging, the set made full use of the stage and with a nice lighting design, I felt that it was a decent overall design for a tour that was worth the ticket money.
