I have to be honest, as much as I like stage-to-screen recordings, I am not sure that this one would transfer well. Reason being is that the scale of the minimal set, giant screen, the big close-ups and zooms would probably not work in a cinematic form. The reason this production works (for me) is due to the switches between stage and screen - literally, the close-ups, the final zoom in to Norma at the end, the use of bright white screen with silhouetted actors on stage, the side-on camera shots of actors playing out to the audience and vice versa, the chorus aspect, the linear staging, the forced perspective/tunnel effect created by the rear stage lighting, the use of smoke and light and the way it envelopes people, the fourth dimension element of roving camera operators, the wall of sound that has been created through the sound design. All of these elements (and many more) are what makes this an astonishing piece of theatre - the director has left gaps that are subsequently filled by the audience interpretation and imagination. To try and switch this to a cinematic form could work, I guess (with the right people), but I think a lot would be lost if it did. It would feel quite Hitchcockian. Worked perfectly well for Network and All About Eve. Same as being there. In fact I think it gained more in the filmed screenings. and please put a list of spoilers in spoiler tags!

I don't think Network had a NT Live showing, All About Eve did though.

Is the orchestra pit Infront of the key worker seats Hello and welcome to the forum, have you purchased key worker seats? I think they were all in the stalls and the circle. Where did you buy and what is your specific question/concern?

Yes, I know that. I’m trying to understand what our new member’s concern is.

Some press are also being invited on the 12th of October. Is that for Rachel’s debut? There’s only ever been a matinee on sale for that day, which is Rachel’s first show.

It’s all a bit odd really, why would they only do a matinee on that day rather than Rachel make her debut in the evening. There could be some super exclusive evening performance for the press, guests etc. that was never on sale but that seems unlikely with so many seats to fill. If the press invite is meant for the matinee, it’s nice of them to invite the press to see Rachel to give her performances their own “identity” but also a bit unfair to them to invite them to her first public performance!

Weirdly, the two dates I have booked are the 5th and the 12th. I’ve never been to a production the same day as press day. Do they typically run the same as regular days? Do I need to arrive earlier than usual?

Do I need to arrive earlier than usual? Press nights often start at 7 rather than 7:30. Everything else is as usual, but you might wanna arrive early if you wanna see celebs on the red carpet, unless it’s a press only opening night for reviews. Your ticket will tell you the correct start time though.

Mystery solved, normal matinee performance (Rachel's debut) and then a press-only performance with Nicole in the evening which isn't on sale to the general public. Seems odd but there you go!

I'm gonna have to sit on this overnight, but as someone who hates Jamie Lloyd shows and has never managed to win me over ever, he did it tonight.
This is utterly thrilling, and Scherzinger is a sensation.

I’m actually really struggling with what to say about this because I was so very pleasantly surprised with everything. Jamie Lloyd’s vision was so brilliantly executed. I thought I wasn’t going to like it as I don’t Jamie’s work but this was just so well done. It really shows (in my attention) how much Jamie cares about the source material. I have loved Tom Francis for a number of years now but I am so shocked at just how good he is in this. I adored what Nicole did with Norma, she really settled into the heavier stuff well, and threw herself into the comedy - I loved the Moira Rose-isms (from Schitt’s Creek) she had. I cannot wait to see Rachel Tucker do this. My thinking is that all of the understudies will be directed differently as so much is clearly because it’s Nicole. So I can’t wait for that. I loved Grace as Betty, also love that she’s a recent grad so that the title sequence can say ‘introducing’ and then her name
