It sounds like NS is doing Children in Need… But why on earth? New Years Day (a Monday) is the only ‘green’ availability left on ATG tickets with it being a 50/50 split of orange/red. They risk the wrath of, well us, for pulling NS (that could easily be pre-recorded) for the sake of a four minute tv spot. Bonkers.

(if it’s really for Children in Need) sure they could’ve pre-recorded it so she doesn’t miss a show but that 4-minute spot would be quite good publicity for future runs- someone high up probably weighed it up against the potential wreath of 2 days’ audiences and thought it was worth it!

If she’s off on the Saturday it seems unlikely to be for Children In Need. I expect it may well be for a personal reason (family, a funeral etc).
Of course Nicole/ATG are under no obligation to explain why, but if it is for a personal reason they may avoid a certain amount of bad feeling from disgruntled ticketholders if they give at least some explanation.

RUG are so good at most things but I despair of their reluctance to do cast recordings of UK revivals.
Even if it made zero money, do it for the fans, do it for posterity. It’s such an epic production. Preserve it! (I appreciate this contradicts my regular devil’s advocate posts on here affirming that show business is a business. But I DO feel differently about cast recordings. I think they are worth losing money on!)
Disappointing.

Baffling. I’m sure this is RUG’s most well received venture in a decade at least?
Spend the money they clearly have and invest in future proofing this fantastic production. Cast album with two Tucker bonus tracks at the end is a no brainer.
Especially since you couldn’t stop them releasing EPs of the new Normas in the 90s.

Off-topic, but I did a double take at your username. I thought it a Latin tag countering onanism, until I realised I had the split in the wrong place. Please tell me this was deliberate!

I wouldn't take this as bad news... Lets be optimistic that there are not "confirmed plans" could mean there are discussions/negotiations going on.
Would just encourage fans like myself who agree that this really needs a new cast recording to go to reallyuseful.com (or andrewlloydwebber.com) scroll to the bottom where it says "GET IN TOUCH" and share your feedback. It seems like a no brainer to us, and for sure I don't know all the financial things surrounding this (and again, how Sondheim revivals are recorded seemingly everytime, I'll never know) I'm sure ALW is hoping that finally Sunset Blvd will have a run that returns its original investment and considered a financial hit and perhaps that's why they're gun shy to add another expense right now.
But seriously if they want to curtail people making illegal recordings, then give us a quality product we're only happy to purchase and listen to over and over again. The few clips of this cast singing that I've heard (before they disappeared) have made it really difficult to enjoy the World Premiere or American Premiere recordings anymore

I totally agree chernjam. This thread gets a lot of views. If someone was to bring together all of the socials/emails of RUG in a post here maybe there could be a sort of campaign. Maybe tweeting ALW has influence if it happens in numbers? No idea.

fb.watch/ofCaNVbRgt/Speaking of Children In Need here’s Queen Patti doing it in 1993. She came from The Adelphi and IIRC had to wait until after midnight to belt this out! I taped it on VHS and watched it over and over and over….

How many were there from the 90s? There was the Betty one sold at the theatre on Broadway. The petula one. Elaine's we're on her album. US tour Linda Balgord had a two song sampler Baffling. Canada and Germany also got RUG cast recordings.

Yeah Patti, Glenn, Betty, Petula, Diahann and Faith all had official recordings of the big numbers at the very least, if not the full show. They weren’t shy about recording a quick little EP. Off-topic, but I did a double take at your username. I thought it a Latin tag countering onanism, until I realised I had the split in the wrong place. Please tell me this was deliberate! I wish I could say it was! Ahhh it was a great era! Imagine if all the subsequent casts of the great musicals with iconic songs still got to do EP’s nowadays. (Still fuming there wasn’t a recording of Wicked with Kerry). The 90’s were a time of plenty for recordings generally. Joseph releasing singles, mega remixes and VHSs. Starlight re-recorded and also releasing singles. All the Sunsets. Cats, Joseph, JCS being filmed. A million international recordings of Cats and Phantom! Whistle getting singles and a concept recording as well as the OLC. Great times!

Without wishing to sound like a w***er I literally feel privileged to have been there now. I look at the current landscape and that era feels like a very special and unique time.

I look at the current landscape and that era feels like a very special and unique time. I know what you mean. Musicals and the West End were at their peak in popular culture*. It was an exciting time. (*following on from the mega-musicals of the 80s of course, which were still around)

Whistle getting singles and a concept recording as well as the OLC. Great times! Yes exactly. To think there’s not been an original London cast recording of Wicked and easy missed opportunities like the Kerry era and the hugely successful Rachel Tucker/Louise Dearman era. I know West End musicals culturally aren’t as popular as they were in the 80s/90s but some of these productions are so much in the black in terms of profit that it just seems negligent not to realise additional recordings of popular casts/special anniversaries. Especially now when streaming makes music so easily accessible, those fresh recordings could mean fresh ticket sales. And even if they don’t, you’ve got a snapshot of a musical at a particular time for a new audience. As has been said, show business is show business and I get that…..but sometimes it wouldn’t hurt to nurture a listening audience. The fact that this is RUG’s biggest hit in years and we’re having to send email requests for them to consider a recording is madness to me.
