Bottom line is, this production one a sackful of Oliviers and will do the same at the Tonys. London sold very well and Broadway is doing the same. Imagine what they could achieve with a proper Norma. Yep, if only! Oh well, we got twerking Norma instead 🤷♂️

The Savoy have just posted the below on their socials:
We are thrilled to be hosting a mini launch for @sunsetblvd The Album’s release.
Recorded live here at the Savoy Theatre during the shows multi award winning run.
This event will be exclusively between 10am and 11am on Friday 25th October, back at its West End Home!
Join us from 10am when we will be selling the Album in all forms from the venue and the first 100 customers will receive an exclusive Limited Edition Print from our friends at @theothersongs
A shame there was no print for those of us who pre-ordered months ago but it’s nice idea. Hope some of the board members can go!

I whacked it on the hi-fi and I'm sure my neighbors hate me because the way Nicole absolutely belts out the end of With One Look on this recording was going to bring the house down.

Bit like the completely out of touch NYT critic who thought this and other affectations were "contemporary". Err, no. They are 10-15 years out of date. Deliberately passé.

I'm skipping through at this point and will save a proper listen for tomorrow. The Overture has no audience laughing over it but that's fine because it's maybe the most glorious it has ever sounded on any cast recording

I'm quite enjoying it, glad they toned down the audience

I'm using a VPN to fake my global location and listening on New Zealand Apple Music. If you search for it though in the usual places it's already been put online.

Not had a despatch email for my CD yet but I’ll be listening on Spotify tomorrow for sure.

Think I’ll stick with my signed World Premiere recording of Sunset, starring a proper Norma. Its rare that I disagree with Steve, as we go back to his OG days running "Boulevard" and back when RUG had a forum on their website - but I really vehementy disagree with you on this my friend. I can appreciate that you don't like the production/direction they've gone. But you are disagreeing with yourself that it's Nicole twerking and winking saying she's Norma. The whole point of the character is that they've let their screen persona consume their identity - which is exactly what Nicole does brilliantly. And as for Patti - well, she loved to claim she was the only one who could hit the notes in the original keys... that's no longer the case. Nicole is a phenomenon that is leaving NY audiences stunned by the ferocity and beauty of her voice

It’s one or the other.

Both these things would be amazing :-) (Lol re him forgetting The Woman In White and the Song and Dance live recordings he did though. I guess they were both processed and not exactly as on the night IDK 🤷🏻♂️!).

Right! That’s enough. If you can’t appreciate alternative interpretations of shows you cherish perhaps it’s best you don’t at all. Insinuating that people are of lesser intelligence because they don’t share your view is unacceptable and beyond childish. If you don’t have the emotional intelligence or enough power of critical thought to recognise an artistic creative decision, vs historical accuracy its best you just don’t to avoid looking like a crazed zealot. This. Theatre can be reimagined y’know. Nowt wrong. As long as there’s intention - fine.

And the first ‘By Jeeves’ recording was live too - though he could be forgiven for forgetting that one…

Maybe he's not as obsessed as we all are

Maybe he's not as obsessed as we all are 'Song and Dance' is presented as recorded on Opening Night/Official Press Night. I believe that - the band doesn't always sound great, and the mic quality rather tinny; though Marti Webb gives one of the best of her recorded versions of the title song, and additions like 'I Love New York' come across really well. That recording's a more daring prospect - pinning it to whatever happens at just one highly pressurised performance, rather than mix the 'best of 5'. I think ALW is sliding about with words a bit; they recorded 5 performances, but in the end they only needed one because everyone's so amazing (best I've ever had), and there's barely any post-production bar the mix. I suspect they simply picked the best 'home base' performance (obvs, who wouldn't) and did indeed pick any better takes/corrections from other nights (who wouldn't!). The obsession with 'best ever' 'first ever' 'luckiest circumstances' has now passed through infuriating and gone right back round to hilariously endearing. He should right a pop version of 'Candide' and play Dr Pangloss himself. I think it's time that whoever forced that auto-tuning onto the DVD of Tim Minchin in 'Jesus Christ Superstar' was named and shamed. Because it's clear from this interview that ALW is only ever keen to hear the unvarnished raw performance.....

The primal scream THEEEEEEEYYYYYY'LL at the end is definitely unvarnished on this cast recording cus even listening to it made me form vocal nodules. She was totally giving it everything. Chilling stuff and best call to just leave it all as is instead of messing around.

It ranks with 'Loofah' and 'Sprocket' amongst words that don't usually do the heavy lifiting drama wise. Props to all involved. Or, as it's a Jamie Lloyd production.... no props. ; )

Yeah, it's out. GO!
It sounds utterly glorious in Atmos; best listened with your eyes shut, I was imagining the staging happening from my middle seat in the front row of the Dress Circle when I saw this a year ago today, the 25th October 2023.
I love how almost within a few hours of it going up, As If We Never Said Goodbye is the most listened track on the album below Sunset Boulevard
