I sense a feeling of disappointment and I agree with that. It was nicely staged and well acted - loved HG and AS - but so many themes here: identity of BBC, use of new media, feminism, homosexuality and hypocrisy, betrayal, personal and political…and there it was all along struggling to get out, that is the Churchill concept that someone who despised the new medium, tried to destroy and then control it, became the one person who mastered it, radio becoming one of the most important weapons on the domestic front of WWII. Churchill repeated his speeches in the HoC on the wireless in WWII ( some people think they used an actor ) and in fact weren’t they written for the bigger audience of the nation? I would have liked to see more about radio and less about Reith’s anguished religiosity.
