Is this going to be like the initial rush for HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD though, which was impossible to get tickets for? Can only speak for myself, but don't think so. Harry Potter was and is a much bigger brand across all generations and it was the first new story in years and an original sequel so to speak. Stranger Things is a quirky cult show beloved mostly by a certain generation (mine) whose youth it brings back. I might be interested in this, but would first want to hear more about the plot, characters, casting etc. Right now it feels more like a cash-in on a popular TV-show than anything that has grown and developed organically. It may become a hit if it's really done well, but I don't think it has the "instant demand" built-in that Potter had. |

The story is apparently set (or starts) a couple of decades before the first season and features the character of Hopper as a teenager.

Stranger Things was the most-streamed show of 2022 (52 billion minutes watched), though how that translates into theatre audiences I don't know. Viewers love the characters and the actors, so without those familiar faces it'll be interesting to see how this works. The writing team tweeted that the story is 'canon' so that obviously would be more of a draw, if it's backstory. Their TV show casting calls use alternate names so maybe the moody outsider teen character mentioned is Hopper? |

It being in a smaller theatre compared to HP will help.
It will be interesting, the fan base for stranger things doesn't seem as big and certainly not as invested and hardcore as HP. HP also had the 'how will they do this or that'on stage aspect.
Also will people fly around the world to see it like people did HP? Time will tell

Feels like a mistake to loose the 80s setting, though? That's what so many people love about the show. And surely if it features a young Hopper, the Upside Down and other supernatural elements won't be particularly present, since Hopper doesn't believe in any of it at the start of season 1?

By all that's good and holy, don't lose the 80s setting. It's what MADE the show, all these homages and reminiscences of the teen and horror movies of that decade, the fashion, the music and so on. I tore up when Dustin and Suzie launched into "Neverending Story" that one time as it was one of my favorite songs back then and I hadn't heard it in years.
If they set this play in the 60s or 70s (whenever Hopper was meant to be young) it will be a completely different show. Sure, it may work to actually create a whole now setting around the pop culture of that time, but it wouldn't be Stranger Things anymore. It will lose the now in-built audience of Gen X and older millennials but won't suddenly attract the Boomers who don't care so much for the TV show.

I was at the phoenix this week for Noises Off and the FOH areas could do with a bit of a spruce up. Could they have a quick refurb in mind for the summer, especially if they are hoping Stranger Things lasts a while?

I have never heard of the TV series so asked a friend who said it's very good so just started watching it. I'm probably not the demographic audience and only watched 1 episode so far. I'll try a couple more before committing to 4 series.
