Despite my somewhat dismissive review I found myself watching it on D+ today. So there’s that.
Also, Shaq Taylor is better as Hamilton than LMM. Sorry!

Also, Shaq Taylor is better as Hamilton than LMM. Sorry! I think most performers who have played that role are better than LMM. Lin is a lot of things but a great performer he is not. And I say that as someone who loves his work. |

In fact, I thought the same about the people I've seen play Usnavi in In The Heights too but thought his performance in Hamilton stuck out more as a struggle. |

Wasn’t there quite a lot of noise at the time it was being filmed about making sure the original cast were featured as much as possible? I guess I was assuming he was considered the gold standard.

It’s LMM that stops me watching the Disney+ recording, especially because of all the great A Hams we’ve had. Its just a bit of a shame because everyone else is great.

I’ve just increased my rating from ⭐️⭐️⭐️ to ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.
This show has crossed my mind several times since I saw it a couple of weeks ago and today I found myself singing rapping “re-imagining” the performance of My Shot in my head.
Something’s definitely stuck, so my childish, stubborn “It can’t be that good I’m not going to like it” attitude was wrong and I’m very happy to admit it 🙂
Might look at prices again at the end of the MCR run… 🙈

Bought a ticket for this last week about an hour before curtain up and bagged a few rows back in the stall, dead centre for about £55 - a proper bargain to be honest.
Having not seen any production in person before - just the filmed version - I was excited to finally see it. It didn’t disappoint thankfully, Shaq Taylor was excellent as Hamilton and I loved Billy Nevers as Lafayette/Jefferson - a proper stand out!
Helpless into Satisfied really is the best part of the show for me though and it comes so early on I did feel like I was chasing the high of that particular 1-2 punch the rest of the show.
4/5 for me!

I keep humming songs from Six, and have no interest in watching it. That's what you get when you have followed a current alternate Queen on TikTok since her days at Tesco, my FYP is full of Six. |

Looking to go in Edinburgh in March, but the cheapest tickets seem to be £76 in the upper circle. Does anyone know if the theatre might reduce singles closer to the time or if there are any deals around?

I've snapped up a couple of single seats two rows from the front for a week's time for £30 |

I finally saw this last night. I was really looking forward to it and very excited to see it. I'd watched it on Disney+ yonks ago and am very familiar with the cast recording - so thought I'd absolutely love seeing it in the theatre. However, (controversially perhaps) I wasn't blown away by it.
It was very good, don't get me wrong, and I'm glad I went whilst it was up here in Manchester. I just came out of the theatre thinking 'Right, I've seen it now, that's enough for me.' I can't put my finger on why I was a bit underwhelmed.
The audience behaviour was interesting too. Lots and lots of people getting up all the time to go to the toilets (the stalls toilet doors banging each time they opened), sweet wrappers rustling, talking etc. I just don't get it.

I was there last night too and really enjoyed it, thankfully spared the chatterers but noticed a lot of toilet visits during the show as the shafts of light were distracting. The audience around us was generally well behaved apart from checking messages on phones, smart watches lighting up, crunching water bottles etc… but thankfully not to the detriment of the show so it can’t have been as often as it felt as I am usually hyper sensitive to this kind of thing. I feel for the ushers though, trying to deliver those bags right up to the end of the interval. No wonder there are distractions through the show if people aren’t getting them In time to enjoy them in the interval. They must be a nightmare for the staff.
The show itself? Really enjoyed it, my third time overall but first time in 4 years, cast overall very strong although I didn’t enjoy the actress playing Angelica I’m afraid, although others with me loved her so that must be personal taste as opposed to any fault in her performance. I’m really pleased I went to see it again but now won’t feel the need to go back:

Probably my fault for being on the end of an aisle so I really noticed everytime someone moved etc. One of the ushers was quite stroppy too as he was trying to deliver those bags at the interval and people had disappeared and weren't there to collect them, meaning he was making repeat visits. He seemed quite stressed out and I did feel quite sorry for them. I also agree with what you've said about the actress playing Angelica too. I did love the actor playing George Washington though, he was a highlight for me. |

Watched this last Saturday. First time I've seen it and thought it was fantastic as did my family.
Shaq was a great Hamilton, also loved Eliza and King George was fabulous (although lead to a bad audience behaviour incident). The ensemble are so good, we loved the choreography.
All of us were astounded by the wordiness! Love to know how many words are spoken throughout, its so well written and cleverly guides you through the historical story.
Absolutely want to see it again, looked at the London prices (eye watering) but see it's coming to Liverpool next year so will give it a try there I think. I paid £85 each for 5 centre front row cirle and had to go right into Jan to get them the day they went on sale! All these package priced tickets are a joke, grumble, grumble.
5 stars from me.

I remember reading somewhere that there is the equivalent number of words as you would find in 6 or 7 standard musicals! Don’t know an exact number, sorry.
I was lucky enough to see the original London cast and the recording of the original Broadway cast and this production is a bit of a mixed bag for me. I saw it at the end of November and again at the start of January 2024.
Shaq (imho) is superior to both Lin Manuel on Broadway and Jamel in London; he brings a lot more comedy to the role and a clear aging, physically, as the show progresses. I thought Maya was serviceable as Eliza, but nothing special. Was expecting a lot more from her having covered all of the sisters in London - her voice seemed a little weak and she struggled with some of the higher notes (in November she was clearly loosing her voice and I was surprised that hadn’t replaced her with a cover). I had huge hopes for Aisha having worked on Tina the musical in London when she played Tina’s sister (beautifully!) and understudied Tina, but her voice is completely unsuited to this role - she is shrill and screeches/shouts through most of it. Gabriella was stunning as Peggy/Maria. Clear characterisation in both roles and totally focussed and in character when she was on the sidelines. Shout out to Daniel Boys as the king, Billy Nevers as Lafayette and Jefferson and Sam Oladeinde as Burr. Production values are the same as the London production from what I could see but the ensemble dancing still needs some tightening up (and Antoine Murray-Straughan needs to stop trying to make other ensemble members laugh when sat on the stage right steps during act 2 - really distracting!). Overall a thoroughly enjoyable couple of evenings out but I wish I’d seen a cover Angelica who could match previous performers in the role. Audience behaviour both times was great, I was sat in pricey seats in the stalls and the dress but had friends sat in the Grand Tier on one of the same performances who said that wasn’t the case up there.

Lengthy showstop in Bristol tonight, leading to it never really finding its groove. Cover AH was excellent (very LMM) and cover Angelica was fine. The nearby ushers radio going off constantly in the last half hour p!ssed me off, and was not fine.
