I see that there's already a thread on Shirley but I started this to create a conversation between these two shows that will be on the West End at the same time in a few weeks, for a mere 15 weeks.
I'm making my pilgrimage the last weekend of February, from New York City, with multiple performances booked. Shirley Valentine is the first show I saw more than once, in it's original Broadway production, and could not pass up the opportunity to see it again, for the first time on the West End.
Did Shirley Valentine influence Judy Cramer to create the story of Mamma Mia? Catherine Johnson wrote the libretto, but it was Judy's idea. Why was she thinking of ABBA? When I listen to the music of ABBA, I don't think of Greece. Am I missing something?
Let's have a real lively conversation with your thoughts, possible "insider" knowledge, added to this thread.
