Thats interesting. My sister was telling me some time ago that the Hall For Cornwall was going to have a world premiere but no one knew what it would be.

Hall For Cornwall co produced Benjamin Button (Southwark) and I was blown away. I am very excited for this and have family who live in Truro, even better! 🐟

Although I'd heard of it, to my shame I knew next to nothing about the Hall for Cornwall until this thread prompted me to do a little research.
The way they've been able to fit a three level theatre, and everything else, into such a constrained site is very impressive. I won't lie, I had to look it up, but it has (or will have) an ope running through it. The world-famous Crucible Theatre hasn't got one of those. It hasn't even got a gennel! 😉

And as public transport is so bad in Cornwall there is room at the back to tether up up your horses, pigs, sheep.

I suppose the question is, will the ushers be selling saffron buns in the interval? Would certainly keep the actors on their toes during Act II. £1 for fresh...£1.50 for stale. 🙂

Don’t forget while it’s free to enter Cornwall, you have to pay to get out

Truro is lovely! It's dead posh. They even have a White Company.

I just booked a Saturday matinee ticket for this show. It's sold very well and it was the only decent front row stalls seat left.
I have a show booked in London on the Friday evening and will travel to Penzance on the overnight train and make my way to Truro by local bus on Saturday morning. Back home to Kent by train after the show. I like doing these slightly crazy things, helps keep me youngish and activish !

As a young lad I often came up to London on it for weekends. The little berths were always so hot but nice to be woken up with a cup of tea and a biscuit. Looking forward to your review and also would like to hear what tbe new Hall For Cornwall is like.

If this ends up touring I will probably go and see this. We went to Port Isacc this summer and stumbled upon them doing a little show in the harbour and it was such a wonderful atmosphere.

I won't pay for a sleeper berth, though the overnight train is still mostly sleeping compartments I think. The railcard fare in the seating section is a reasonable £35. I find it easy to doze off in a train seat whereas laying down would feel too strange.
Will post how I get on and what I make of the show/venue anyway

I'm from Penzance originally (I'm booked to see the show on 16th Oct, very excited to see the new renovated Hall for Cornwall) and just a tip - don't get the bus Pz to Truro, it takes almost 2 hours (unless you manage to get the one early commuter service) and it's not a pretty route, hop on the train, it's only 40 minutes (I think it's sold well amongst Cornish people as they want to see the new Hall and the show is set in Cornwall - my uncle (a farmer) is coming with me and he's never been to the theatre before)

The Open Top Bus may still be running Penzance-Lands End - St ives - that's a fabulous journey which I did earlier in the summer.

Saw this yesterday and absolutely loved it but I find it tough to be objective as I so rarely get to see my home county represented on stage!
In my opinion it's an improvement on the film - they have removed some of the more daft parts of the story and they've toned down the twee representation of a Cornish village (although it's still a very idealised version of Cornwall!). I loved the music but I know the majority of the Sea Shanties they've included very well, I'm not sure how well it would be received by an audience not so familiar with the songs. I can imagine some people being rather confused when they say they are off to London and then they start singing "We're bound for South Australia"!
The set was good but someone needs to learn to turn down the smoke machine, we were in the third row and at times I couldn't see my friend next to me!!
This version seemed specifically targeted at a Cornish audience - lots of jokes about tourists, second home owners, Rowes pasties, Tribute and the rivalry with Devon, I suspect they may tone this down slightly when it tours. They also included an encore of the Cornish National Anthem which I suspect may just be for the Hall of Cornwall run.
Overall though it was a just a lovely, enjoyable, uplifting musical with great music. If you like Sea Shanties you'll love it, if you don't (what's wrong with you?!!) I'd probably give it a miss! It struck me as having a bit of a similar feel to "Come From Away" except the locals aren't so welcoming!!
The Hall for Cornwall renovation was pretty impressive, it looks like there are still a few bits to do in the lobby but the auditorium is lovely. It was just wonderful to watch a show in a full sized theatre in Cornwall, I really hope more shows start adding Cornwall to their tours so we don't have to trek to Plymouth anymore!

Glad to hear that Hall for Cornwall has finally opened, looking at the programme they certainly have a lot of good stuff coming that way and, as you say, don't have to cross the bridge into Plymouth. Why would anyone want to venture into Devon unless it was an emergency! I am guessing that they will have to change a bit for the tour as no one will know about Tribute beer and Rowes pasties. Are they the best? Not sure but their saffron cakes certainly are. Did the audience join in with Trelawny?
