Kate Duchêne also seemed like a lovely person as well as coming across very eloquent and switched on in this interview. Not really familiar with Lillian Hellman's work apart from The Children's Hour which I've seen the film of so very keen to discover this piece and the Donmar seems like the perfect home for it this winter

Late morning, I picked up a lovely returned seat for tomorrow - best of the cheap seats! - and an hour later got an email saying sorry but ..
After all the guff under this AD - they couldn't even give away free tickets for Love and Other Acts of Violence - the Donmar could do with a proper belter. This is selling very well - let's hope they don't lose any more dates.

It might be selling well, but there are 75 unsold seats for this Saturday night - in the 'good old days' you'd never have had a Saturday night of a new production only 70% sold. (Admittedly, most of the tickets sold are the pricey ones, which suggests that the "traditional" Donmar audience might be returning)

It might be selling well, but there are 75 unsold seats for this Saturday night - in the 'good old days' you'd never have had a Saturday night of a new production only 70% sold. (Admittedly, most of the tickets sold are the pricey ones, which suggests that the "traditional" Donmar audience might be returning) It is definitely pricey, though making an effort for the under 30s. |

I've been quite fed up, searching and searching for an affordable matinee ticket, to find so many £10 seats ring-fenced for under-30s who have shown no interest in buying them for weeks now. Why not release them for general sale or tweak the allocation? It's the same at Chichester in the pricey Minerva: spare seats always left for under 26s, who they don't want them, yet no-one else is allowed to buy them. It's not only young people who may have limited budgets for non-essentials.

What use to be our normal seats for £10 are available on the days that suit but now restricted for under 30s. The next up ticket price is £41. So what use to be £20 would be £82 for us to go. Nope, nope and nope again. |

It's a very flawed system-I understand wanting to attract young people but they are not the only ones with limited budgets...also, Donmar have increased their prices for the all the other tickets, so they have only made it much worse for everyone else over 30. |

Indeed. The Donmar management seem not to care that they still have good availability at eye-wateringly-high prices (£55 and £60), yet it doesn't seem that long ago that a run would sell out on the strength of the play itself. Perhaps they hope good reviews will result in late sales of the expensive seats but for those unable to afford these, it would only make it all the more galling to miss out. Maybe when they raised the prices they even allowed for selling fewer tickets but for a relatively small venue anyway and with a good sales record hitherto, that seems unlikely. Who knows how their minds work, but I wish I did.

I've watched virtually every there in the last 5 or 6 years mostly in the £10 seats, and many of my friends too. Since they increased the prices so much I've only booked in advance for The Band's Visit. I saw A Doll's House Part 2 just because it was papered. With the current prices we will only book in advance if it's something we are very interested in.

Of course, Jon ; the point people are making here is not only that long-standing regulars have been priced out - and losing a chunk of the chore audience is bad in itself, both in terms of loyalty and business - but also that at present, the now more expensive tickets are hanging around unsold for weeks. So perhaps something about the price model needs adjusting? |

What does 'papered' means? Seatfilling. Unsold tickets are given free to companies who then charge a small admin fee for the ticket (£3-£7 usually).
