A source would be nice but I doubt we’ll get it and I don’t think we demand sources from our other “insiders” on this site do we? People releasing gossip on this forum stand or fall by their record of accuracy. I feel like this may confuse a lot of people who don’t even realise there’s a stage musical of it in the first place! I feel like it’s not a massively well known show, although they may be U.K. bias.

It’s a shame this hasn’t made its way here on stage, saw October 2019 & it was a blast, also listened to the cast recording this week and it’s a good score!
Seems a shame we haven’t had many Broadway transfers, I was in NYC last week, I’m hoping we see ‘Kimberley Akimbo’ on these shores in the next few years!!

We didn’t get Hairspray until the film had come out so fingers crossed the Mean Girls movie fast tracks a UK production. |

The difference though is mean girls is being made for straight to streaming on paramount plus so won't get a wide cinema release. I'm not sure a relatively small streamer in the UK would have as much impact on box office. The show received a luke warm response on broadway and its gross had started to dip before covid. I don't think this would be an obvious west end hit. Its not as strong as say Legally Blonde or Hairspray
The Hairsperay movie opened summer 2007 and the west end opening was October 2007 so it was in the works before the movie came out and knew the reception it would receive. Although the eventual positive response definitely helped the box office.
