The Hippodrome circle was half empty when I went (Thursday 14th). The show was in good shape though.

Laura Pick has stated on social media that she tried performing while still recovering from an illness, and will be taking a brief break from the show to allow herself time to recover fully.
Casey Al-Shaqsy, Maddison Firth and Jade Davies will be covering her absence until she is ready to return.
Well done to Laura for being open and honest about this, and also Wicked UK for putting performer well-being front and centre, as it always should be.
Wishing Laura a speedy recovery, and the best of luck to the Elphaba covers!
Maddison Firth is performing as Elphaba tonight. Megan Gardiner will be performing as Glinda, with Stephanie Lindo as Nessarose (29th March, 2024).

I hope Laura recovers fully and if she doesn't feel 100% to do a demanding role it is sensible to step back and recover fully. I wonder if Jade will get a chance to don the green or if Casey and Maddison will do the role between them.
I am right in thinking the two leads wouldn't do all 8 shows if they are available and the alternate/understudy will do 1 or 2 shows a week like some other major roles.

I saw this last night and my first time of seeing this. I did not know much about it and throughly enjoyed it. Both female leads are tremendous as were the whole cast and orchestra There was a standing ovation.

Yes, Laura Harrison flew down to Birmingham last night to cover for Elphaba (3rd April, 2024). Casey Al-Shaqsy is recovering from a recent bout of laryngitis and Jade Davies is yet to have her Elphaba put-in, so wasn't available to perform. Well done to Laura Harrison for helping cover on tour while the other green girls are recovering!

She wasn’t swung on yesterday either so could have been a bunch of reasons. Anyway, well done to Laura and hopefully the other tour Elphabas are ok!

Hope everyone recovers soon - was Madison indisposed or on holiday as she and Casey were covering as Laura Pick has had to take time off?
Does Jade Davies in effect need to do a dress rehersal for the role or at least some sort of run through to step into the role or was she off too for any reason?

From Casey’s story it looks like Maddi did her ensemble track for the matinee yesterday. I’m assuming like most shows they do cover runs, but I’m not sure how many they have to do before they are allowed to go on and whether that has the potential to change in an emergency situation like yesterday.

There have been instances where US u/s Elphabas have gone without even a put in. I can’t recall exactly who but I’ve heard them say it on a couple of these theatre podcasts they’ve been on.
Maybe Jade going on without one (again no real confirmation she has or hasn’t) is there absolute last resort and given they were able to get Laura up then they didn’t have to.
Although one could assume that as soon as Laura P went off they would have ensured she was ready to go on if needed. Then again maybe she is they could just all be indisposed by illness. If Maddison was on holiday (I’m sure someone said this could be the case) they’d have asked her to come back to perform unless she wasn’t in travelling distance.
I do feel like it’s a shame though that Laura and Casey are actively putting it out there why they won’t be performing. I feel like they’ve been pushed into this from a lot of fan pressure with what was happening in London over the past year. At the end of the day it’s no one’s business why they aren’t on. A viewers only concern should be that there is someone to play the role so it doesn’t get cancelled.

Jade posted Tuesday saying she’d done her cover run. I would think pulling a London cast member down would be a last resort.

If a cast member wishes to post why they are off, it is up to them. A lot of people post insta stories. All I think the company needs to say is holiday or indisposed. The 2nd could cover pretty much anything. We never knew why people were off pre-social media times.
London to B'ham is only 90 odd ,minutes by train so Laura H can get up to there pretty quickly. I just have a vision of her travelling in her green make up although this wouldn't have happened.

I’m pretty sure there are scheduled shows off for Laura and Sarah in each venue when Casey and Megan will go on but I’m not sure if they get to take time off outside of the weeks they get off between venues? Unless there are week breaks between the tour venues then they would be entitled to holidays. I don't know what the maximum number of consecutive weeks a show can run be it in one venue or on tour before someone would be entitled to statutory holiday?

Maddison Firth is on as Elphaba tonight (5th April, 2024). I was there tonight and thought Maddison was very good! She’s got a few performances under her belt now and was very confident. Very powerful voice and held back on the riffs which enabled her to have more oomph. No Good Deed was a highlight! 💚 One thing that I did notice…I’ve seen Wicked over 50 times now (!!!) but tonight was the first ever time that there was no applause and just a deadly silence after ‘I’m Not That Girl’. Maddison sang it beautifully and I was ready to clap, but it just never happened and the silence in the whole theatre lasted at least 2 seconds before Morrible came on with her line! Has anyone else encountered this? I suppose it’s just one of those numbers that hits the audience differently with its emotional ending… Interesting to note, too, that Amy Webb was down as standby on the cast board…
