Brilliant novel, brilliant playwright. Great stuff.

After so prolonged a closure, it would have been great to see the Swan (my favourite of all the spaces in Stratford) be used for Jacobethan theatre.
Yes, this does have a decent playwright. But a deeply pedestrian director.
Roll on the new regime. They cannot arrive quickly enough

Was waiting to see what The Swan was going to open with before booking for the RST, worth a visit and will now pair with Cymbeline to make a day of it.

I'm very excited about this. I love the novel and I think Lolita Charkrabarti could do a great job. Not sure about Erika, but I'm so looking forward to being back in the Swan and booking a 2-play overnight trip to Stratford.

Every performance is sold out. Does anyone know what usually happens at the RSC with returns etc? Wondering if I will be able to snag a ticket at some point.

Announcing a transfer this early strikes me as being astonishingly brave...or foolhardy.

Announcing a transfer this early strikes me as being astonishingly brave...or foolhardy. I suspect (barring some sort of major critical mis-step/misfire) that this will prove to be a very fruitful combination of successful literary title, the RSC, and the traditional West-End-price-paying playgoer. Not really my thing at all, but it feels like very similar territory to the Hilary Mantel adaptations, and they were generally well-met by the public.

Not really my thing at all, but it feels like very similar territory to the Hilary Mantel adaptations, and they were generally well-met by the public. The first two Mantel adaptations were well received. The final one flopped. It probably would have done better if Mike Poulton had done the adaptation and it had run in Stratford as part of a full trilogy season before being transferred. Allowing Mantel to do her own adaptation was a big mistake Hamnet has sold in the reputation of the novel and the past work of the adaptor. Whyman is not a widely respected director and so we have no idea whether this will actually be a good production or just something pedestrian as that is the maximum to which she can aspire. I suspect the initial transfer is relatively safe but it will only extend if it is actually a decent stage play. The RSC needs successful transfers.

Enjoyed the book so I'll probably book in advance for this.

If its pretty much sold out before opening in Startfodd upon Avon, I can see why its been given a west end chance

And, actually, might be a bit clever to open the London booking before the Stratford show. Given it's sold out in Stratford, it will get sales in London. If it gets poor reviews in Stratford, then the transfer might have been in doubt, but maybe it will get enough sales before the Stratford opening regardless of reviews.

I would keep checking on RSC website in the days leading up to your chosen date(s) as returns may come in but pot luck or try ringing box office in the mornings leading up to your preferred date again to see if any returns. Sorry you missed out.

The film was in development before the play adaptation, it's the same producers involved in both.

Tickets are on sale, from Nimax - very expensive. I wonder if the front row will be added later or be day seats as it doesn't seem to be on sale now.

Strange there’s only a very limited selection of seats across all performances, in an odd pattern. Is that to control dynamic prices or something?

Not paying £30 for the back of the uppermost tier. #WithdrawRSCFunding
