Bristol Hippodrome are teasing an announcement tomorrow with ‘Be Prepared’ in yellow writing on a black background. They surely aren’t putting Lion King in for a third year running? Anyone know?

It will be The Lion King. Other venues have done the same teaser post before announcing the show.

I know that they want to fill their venues with things that sell, but they’re surely going to hit a wall soon. When we went to BATB in Bristol a few weeks ago (on its return only a year after opening its tour there) there were huge swathes of empty seats with only the less expensive upper circle full.

Lion King still doing exceptionally well everywhere - although I am desperate for it to close and be redone, because it has the potential to be even more theatrical than it currently is given today's technology.

Can you imagine the furore if they tried to update Taymors vision? (By adding more than bog standard automation or actually exciting lighting.).

Lion King has extended for 3 weeks in Manc. Still with eye watering prices. The fact Lion King is selling extremely well means it's a no brainer to have it return to places like Bristol.

Regional theatres are still suffering the impact of lockdowns. Not just audience numbers, but schedules have been impacted for a number of years with shows cancelling and rebooking slots plus the volume of touring product at the moment. Its resulted in either gaps in schedules to fill or some theatres not getting shows they usually would.
