The issue is it is replacing a much loved lavish old staging at the ROH I would absolutely have booked if it was still the Schlesinger production. I find the ditching of almost all the ROH's lovely traditional older productions to be replaced by seemingly invariably contermporary-set productions to be extremely depressing & it has cut my operagoing down considerably in recent years. I suppose I should be glad I started going to the ROH 20 years ago when they still had lots of attractive productions (the first production I ever saw at the ROH being the Schlesinger Rosenkavalier) as if I started now I'd probably go once then never again!

Fidelio
Absolutely fantastic. Great singing especially from the woman and the chorus. The production asks What would you do? Generally sit back, graze on snacks and swim with the tide. Thought provoking and brilliantly sung why cant all ROH's be like this ?

30% discount offer for Fidelio too all over social media. Looks like the ROH is struggling to get an audience at its standard prices.

Absolutely and they are lacking major major star power No Ntrebko etc for ages BUT A good tip for opera goers Book the outer seats for stalls if you like being close As with the new pricing structure they are a COMPARATIVE bargain compared to the centre stalls The stalls have more price bands than before Even better yet book for a filmed or streamed performance The camera never obstructs the view and the seats are usually 60-70% off the RRP It is particularly worrying for Hoffman At one time Florez was a big draw There are still some operas selling well within promo and the ballets often do well seasonally But overall it’s a bit like the Dior bag scandal The intrinsic value and “real” price and worth is being devalued Shame As it makes one respect the art a bit less
