Spirited - Featuring Ryan Reynolds & Will Ferrell - a Musical comedy telling the aged old Christmas Carol tale from the perspective of the spirits.
Coming very soon.
Not a huge Will Ferrell fan, but I think this will be worth a watch to get into the festive mood.

It is! I've just got in from seeing the late screening at Coventry Showcase, and this film will definitely appeal to many people on these boards. The story is a clever twist on the usual Christmas Carol, a bit meta in places, and doesn't take itself at all seriously. There's the odd laugh-out-loud moment, plus musical set-pieces aplenty. Spirited could easily become one of those traditional feel-good Xmas films that people watch every year. It would also transfer well to a stage adaption. Four stars.

Surprised at how much I liked this. I'm a big fan of Reynolds - think he has a killer screen presence in addition to a fantastic sense of humour that he brings to all of his projects, and both he and Ferrell are great in this. In every other arena I consider Pasek and Paul a pair of hacks who basically write the same song over and over with the proper nouns tipex'd over, but fair play to them they smashed this one; the songs match the humour of the rest of the film, are very tuneful and often genuinely funny, and thank GOD they managed to stop themselves from projecting WOOOOOOOOAH over every lyric.
I wasn't prepared for how much pathos the film gets towards the end either, I have to say; some of the twists on one of the most told stories in our history are genuinely really affecting.
I'd take a star off for how long it is and some of the green-screen effects are shocking. Solid 4/5 for me and I'd imagine it'll be added to our yearly Christmas films rota.

Yeah, I saw it at home on a screener, and gave it 4/5, for much the same reasons as adrianics did.

I’ve just finished watching this, and adored it.
A clever twist on the overdone tale, with a sense of self-referential humour, and as said above, pathos and emotional pay-off.
The songs are wonderful - probably Pasek and Paul’s best in my opinion. They don’t just stick to their generic pop sound (although this is very much still in evidence), but there are some other welcome styles depending on which direction the story takes (such as the Leslie Bricusse/Lionel Bart pastiche).
It looks gorgeous, and the musical numbers practically leap from the screen so much is the energy of the cast.
It does slightly out-stay its welcome. There are one-too-many musical numbers, so it gets a little flabby. I also agree about some of the CGI.
Overall, very much worth a watch.
4 stars.

This was a happy surprise. I'm not sure what i expected but what I discovered was a delightful original musical movie. A great score from Pasek and Paul, delightful choreography and winning performances. A feel as if it will be an annual event.

Blimey, Pasek & Paul really do write the blandest songs. Any of them could be moved from one project to another. Never heard so much music with no soul.

Yeah I hated this, overlong, cheap looking, and the music was so bland and samey.
