I’ve heard this too... not sure how the maths add up of mounting a new production for such a short run but maybe they hope it will extend. So unless I’ve missed something there’s no where official Waitress is closing? Hello dolly is one my fav musicals and this grows has given me Heart attacks by saying it’s coming to the palladium, dominion and now the Adelphi. If the waitress legit closing it would seem more likely But can’t find any notice anywhere, but the theatre board members talk like it is?!? Someone please enlighten me..

It does seem odd that HELLO DOLLY would go straight into the West End. I’d have thought they’d do it somewhere like Chichester first instead of opening it cold. But hey again...Imelda! Please let this be true!

I’m sorry but Imelda is too classic and strong - you need a cheek unconventional actor to play dolly. Of course Stanton is a great actor but we need someone more quirky. Thumbs down from me

The original poster has never posted before and this was their first post. I love the idea but I think we should all be cautiously optimistic until it is announced.

Two things:
1. The production is DEFINITELY happening as I know people who are auditioning. So the production itself is a definite. Didn't know who Dolly was but have had it confirmed by two sources it is indeed Imelda. New production news as yet unclear.
2. Waitress IS closing in July. Theyre currently booking to March but there will be a final extension announced pretty soon (well, as soon as this is announced as happening I guess.)

Let's hope she actually plays Dolly as apposed to Bette Midler who just played Bette Midler.
To be fair, the role was constructed very carefully to allow a STAR to be a STAR. The original attraction wasn't Carol Channing playing Dolly Levi, it was CAROL! CHANNING! STARRING! AS! DOLLY! LEVI!, which is not the same thing. By all accounts what Midler did was well within that framework.
Staunton can certainly act the role, and it's a better fit for her as a singer than Sally in Follies. It would be interesting to see what she did with it, given that I don't think, wonderful as she is, that summoning the kind of outsized, personality-based star turn Channing and Midler provided is within her gifts.

THIS. IS. EXCITING. Didn't like Imelda in Follies but I do think she's fab.

Is it not a little strange that they're using the same marketing as the Broadway production when this appears to be a brand new one according to the rumour? The type face and colours are the exact same. I guess this type face is very similar to the original production but that didn't use the red and white colour scheme, at least not on its album cover art.

The rumour has been circulating for a while so it might as well be true, but as a rule one should never never never never trust Carl Woodward. He's like the Trump of theatre news
As for Imelda, I think her Mrs Lovett is the greatest performance I have ever seen, but I've been to different extents disappointed by everything after that. She has genuine sparks of inspiration but also tends to rely on her bag of tricks (the hysterical clapping, the crazy whisper). I really liked (most of) her performance in Gypsy, loathed (most of) her Martha in Virginia Woolf, and liked some of her Sally. That said, Dolly is a role for large personalities, and it has the potential of being brilliant. I'm more concerned about Cooke tbh, not that he isn't great, but is he funny? Can he pull off a farce?

So it’s not happening?!
Do people have better things to do in there life?! Then act like they have scoops?
Thought this place was supposed to be like the deep dark web for legit leaks, debates, discussions and opinions not just lies to look like you know something, or your in the know!

I'd never seen it before and I truly lucked out on an excellent reasonably priced seat. I was on board for about 10 minutes, from there on out I hated every second of it. I loathed the show itself (though the production was very good) and Midler who I had long been a fan of, annoyed the absolute sh*t out of me. I was very tempted to leave at intermission, but stuck it out. I really wish I'd have left.

Have you read the whole thread? Because when posters are saying they know people who are auditioning for it, and others saying they've heard from a few people it's happening, and have posted it on here, that's generally not people lying for the lols...

A little misleading of him in my opinion.

Will always refrain from posting things unless I have trusted info. 😊

I hope it's true as Donna Murphy in Hello Dolly is one of my absolute greatest nights at the theatre. I do wish it was the Broadway production though - it made me grin from ear to ear for the entire duration. I think Imelda absolutely has a Dolly star turn within her.

I wish I'd have seen her over Bette. It may have made the whole thing a little more palatable as apposed to extremely weird and off-putting x
