Supposedly season 4 will cover the Thatcher era so presumably finishing in 1990, so season 5 covering the 90s (ish) up to the death of Diana (1997) or remarriage of Charles (2003) would make sense. They have said it will finish in the 21st Century apparently, so my guess is ending with the Golden Jubilee celebrations. |

I wouldn't be surprised if Netflix orders more episodes for the final series say another 5 or 6 but then split them over two years so perhaps 8 episodes in 2021 and 8 episodes in 2022

Finally watching series 3 (I don't DO bingeing of TV)
Helena is way too old to be playing Margaret. Same with Ben Daniels as Tony.
Two actors in their mid 50's playing people in their mid 30's really changes the perspective.
It is obvious that Helena is clearly not the younger sister.
Thought the Aberfan episode was done extremely well.

I mean I know there's a video of Queen Elizabeth doing the salute but still...

Thought the Aberfan episode was done extremely well. I DID binge over the last week, having watched series 1 and 2 absolutely ages ago. It's been an eye-opener even with a good wodge of fiction in there. Aberfan had me bawling. Agree with Princess Margaret by Helena, I'm sure they could have found a more age appropriate actress - do they go for "names" for the US audience? The Queen knowing quite as much about politics and the state of the country as is depicted! Liked the Harold Wilson portrayal a lot. Charles at school was done well too. Loved the Welsh episode - the tutor, Mark Lewis Jones - has been excellent in everything I see him in. Gossip! I met Lord Snowdon once, I think it was 1980, I was 20 or 21 ... I worked for a professional film developing company and his house in South Ken was on my route to the bus home. His housekeeper opened the door and called him over to say hello to me .... He was very charming with lots of eye contact and we chatted for a few minutes about my job. Short, slim and quite engaging. |

Watched the 1st 4 episodes today and am really enjoying this season so far both in its writing and cast performances. I wasn't a big fan of season 3 as a whole (the Aberfan episode was the standout for me last season), but this season is up there with some of the Claire Foy / Matt Smith era episodes.
Gillian Anderson's portrayal of Maggie T is great to watch, particularly Maggie's relationship with the Queen and the Royal Family.
Josh O'Connor and Emma Corrin as Charles and Dianna are a great pairing as we watch the courtship and the turbulent early years of their marriage unfold on-screen.
Some absolutely stunning location work from the episodes I've watched so far. I just need to stop binge watching it. It is such as addictive tv series.

I’ve had to stop, watched 5 episodes 😮. I’m loving it. When they depict events that were news stories I love googling for the real pictures to see to what extent they’ve copied. They’ve been more faithful to the original clothes in this season than ever before.
The artistic license with what happened “behind the scenes” is outrageous though. I really don’t think the Queen and Maggie T were sniping at each other in their weekly meetings 😆. And that first visit to Balmoral after she became PM.... I lol’d.

I am on episode 2 of the new series. Enjoyed the 1st episode and up to the high standard of previous series, however I really didn't like the 2nd episode. As an aminal lover I didnt like the cruelty and found the stag scenes quite upsetting. The Balmoral scenes were also just silly.
Gullian Anderson has received a lot of praise for her portrayal of Mrs Thatcher but I really didn't like it and found her quite grating. It was like watching a caricature and, at times, I thought I was watching a spitting image puppet.
I did like the portrayal of Diana though.
I'm sure it will pick up.

They seem to be twisted history even more with each passing episode - which can make for great drama but as things are so much closer to current day, it is far easier to determine what actually happened (even with Palace secrecy)
It is a line that a play like Handbagged managed to tread very well - but here, it is far easier to spot the completely fabricated stuff
Having said that, I am enjoying spotting actors playing bit parts - seeing Lt Gruber from Allo, Allo in the Cabinet was a surprise...

Oh yeah, as much as I dislike Maggie there's no doubt that she was the uber-prepared type - there is no way she'd go to Balmoral without finding out what the visit was going to involve, and packing appropriately. |
